im loving this series so much that i decided to start my own adventure with this modpack thank you chosenarchitect for this modpack even tho i keep dying i am still loving this im trying my best to keep up with chosen on his adventures but i just have been having to much fun with this pack. hopefully you guys in the comments will come over and check out my adventure

AE2 is always more satisfying for me to make work when I’m forced to use it, but I will pick RS every time I’m given the choice. I also don’t always play modpacks all the way through to the end game, so I never see (let alone need) the increased power and customization.

You can use an exporter with a crafting card pointing into the pattern grid to never run out of patterns with refined storage.

If Chosen is going to be the "Orange" mage, he should turn his mage lights' color orange, too.

AE2 is great but it’s a pain to get into and it’s only gotten more tedious. It’s cool the first time, after that it’s bit annoying to have to setup for the 5th pack this year. RS is quite functional and so easy to get into so I almost always choose it. Love that you can use the scry crystal to get RF free wireless access 😂

Same. I like to put more time into automation, rather than designing a storage system. I definitely see the allure of AE2 though and there’s no doubt it’s more powerful. I didn’t even realize some of its capabilities until watching Chosen’s VolcanoBlock last series.

Tedious was the key word there, it's not even necessarily that applied energistics is too hard to understand it's just tedious to set up. When I'm playing video games I don't like having to do tedious tasks.

​@@Clonephaze2327the old inscribing table is a prime example. 1 item at a time it was a pain to automate early game. That is the first item addon mods added. I hear they made it a bit easier to pipe items in now and it can hold more than a single item but until I see it for myself RS gang.

RS autocrafting is just straight up superior. It's flexible enough to be used to along with integrated dynamics to automate things you are normally not supposed to automate.

I have always ALWAYS preferred Refined Storage. I can use AE just fine, but honestly, it feels like you need a high school diploma to use RS, and you need at least a bachelor's to use AE most of the time. Not that I struggle too much, but the points in AE's favor usually happen in the end game for me, which is often far too late for my taste. RS first, RS always upgrading, AE when I can get to it. :)

RS dimensinal recievers are at least only one block. unliek AE2 w hteh quantum ring is a 5x5

I will say RS and AE used to be about on par, so RS won out overall on simplicity. However, AE2 has added far more recently, and RS hasn't, and that has pushed AE2 ahead.

okay underground cables are cool, but also please start flying over your base sometimes to give us an aerial view, cuz i bet it looks awesome :)

I like RS more because it's easy to start out with and snowball into the late game where AE2 might be better.

Not that I requirement it, but you could disable the channel requirement within AE2 (it would kinda be like RF), could also up how many channels can be on a cable. I myself do like the 8/32 channel limit as it is fun trying to think of how you want your network to be setup.

Use the command /ae2 chanelmode infinite to do so.

This entire base is epic, though I wish we got some airial views of it too.

Oh, thank goodness you started with the more simple storage option. 😅👍 AE2 does my head in trying to understand it sometimes. 😵 Maybe it's because I don't (can't) actually play myself (hands on learning is important) but it's so hard to keep track of how to get things done with that mod. Doesn't hurt that I suffer from almost constant brain fog due to having fibromyalgia. 😢

Any way tk use both? Do they have any mods that allow them to work together?

I've always looked at the debate of RS vs AE2 as RS is the better storage mod with crafting capabilities. where's AE2 is the better crafting mod with storage capabilities. RS is so much simpler to get started and work with but because it's simpler it has more limitations. AE2 is more expensive, time consuming and harder to understand but once you do it can do so much more than RS.

It almost looks like you're making it where the technology was in the far past and the magic became the future instead of the reverse

On version 1.9.1 of your modpack, the scrying eye doesnt seem to work from any distance on the overworld anymore

So excited for you to finally get into a storage mod for your pack! RS is the way to go!

Refined storage is Simpler in means of Automation and maybe has not the max usage like ae2. But what is never mentioned is that the 1.16 + packs are also much simpler in means of playstyle and automation. there are alot of mods helping and not that many things which need the complexity of ae2. So the big Pro reason for ae2 kinda diminishes for me.

AE2 is never really needed, but it makes certain automations much simpler and more compact. The pattern providers are an example of that, being able to both export crafting ingredients and import the final product using a single block, as well as having many more options for how the craft should be completed.

@@curly7985 thats what i ment with helping mods. Why need 1 block if you can use entangled to hide it completely. Or laser io. Or modular routers.

I'm finding a problem using Enchanter's Eye as remote access to RS storage. For some reason it stops working after 250 blocks away from the storage itself, even after chunkloading. Lectern didnt have similar problem :/

If you’re really loving those modpacks, make sure you’re watching every Dejojo and TubeAndKnuckle vid, their playthroughs are really fun. The pack also hasn’t pushed out its indev update yet, which is making crucial balance changes that would overwrite a lot of progress with ease. I also don’t think the expert pack grind (and massive train encouragement) would suit frequent Chosen videos. I would love to watch it if he chose to stream it, however!

Outside of being able to import/export on the same side I don’t see how AE2 auto crafting is better. I program PLC as part of my profession. I apply the K.I.S.S. Principle to everything. AE2 is avoided because of this. It’s not that I don’t understand it. It’s more complicated for no good reason.

can make some crafts that require having to wait for a craft to finish (i.e botania runes, flowers, powah stuff, etc) easier. Where in RS you would need to use "pulse inserts next set" and use like a create redstone link or similar. In AE2 you can use blocking mode which means you don't need to use redstone to resume the next crafts

Any time I install applied energistics into a pack I just completely forget about it and don`t use it xd

When are you going to do a RAD 2 series??

Before watching this video o say use rs if you have limited resources or it's a short playthrough but long playthrough use ae2

@@DestinedByte I didnt say it was a problem, but he had storage on day 1. I just want more adventure. Dawncraft was one the best series he's had in a while, and it was because he enjoyed the adventure.

@@edrymis A lot of people are sick of adventure packs tho. Dawncraft was cool I guess, but it’s the same stuff. Get OP as fast as possible and slap around bosses while barely losing a single heart. With more tech oriented modpacks, you can always go about automation a different way. Everybody likes different things, ya know?

​@@mattyiceei have no problems with any part of this series, or any of Chosen's series. Got a small problem with the fact that "people are tired of adventure" and the series has "Adventure" in its name. Not to shut down your argument with your own words, but you said it.

While AE2 is better customized and has better overall control but I prefer the simplicity and ease of use of refined storage. I like the major simplicity

@@konradmielak5940 sure… not quite certain what you are getting at as I was talking about most players who will have issues with channels and such. RS is just very straight forward and thus accessible for casual players. No need to keep track of types of items and such in storage disks.

Ok half way through and find out Occultism gives tons more storage for less materials the RS, even at the base level. May have to see aboutmaking use of the other funtions and see if i can use them in conjuntion with the demon storage. Also glad that the Wormhole makes wireless access to the occultism storage.

@@ChosenArchitect thats wonderful news! The Occultism storage is so cheap and has built in wireless access. Don't remember if it is cross dimensional or not but still pretty easy to get going after the lectern in Ars. Some bugs I've found: My lectern wouldn't accept framed storage drawers as inventories. And the liquid source link for the starbunkle ad-on crashed my world upon placing and has broken the world save to where is crashes when I try to log in.

AE2 for life

RS is literally AE1 ported to newer versions because lazy whiners couldnt deal with AE2's channels, which were made a config option a month after release.

Do folks not like Simple Storage anymore because its too simple or something? Far less waste of materials plus quite early game. To each their own i suppose.

I hear your pros and cons but the way I see it the storage cells in ae2 are so expensive when you think how many you need . Obviously external storages bus will save you . And refined storage crafting is way faster but when your using patterns on machines ae2 is way better . I think they’re pretty much the same but refined just takes it on its functionality. The only reason I don’t tend to use refined anymore is because late game it will crash your game or corrupt your world or one random time it made my latency 9999ms then I turned it off and it went back to normal .

That crash reason is probably due to RS being typeless. The item type stipulation that ae2 has was implemented to mitigate lag and I think it’s done very well in the regard.

Add it in. I've added loads of extra mods in like mekanism, mining gadgets, time in a bottle and so on. Works perfectly. Render new chunks though for any world spawns like new ore.

AE2 every time. RS's, uh, performance problems, are a notable detriment for me, that as well I have been using AE2 since the 1.7 days, so I know its ins-and-outs rather well. When I tried using RS before, on 1.18, I actually had a lot of difficulty making use of it, possibly because it was a mod that felt so eerily familiar and yet did not behave how I expected it to behave - it wasn't AE, after all.
