Being spiritual doesn't mean you need a religion attached. For me it's a internal gift you can grow from childhood with already instilled knowledge of right and wrong, compassion, sensitivity and empathy. I have many of the traits here most common is strangers opening up and being able to easily read others emotions an intent. After my divorce from a covert narcissist these gifts all came to the forefront, all of them...intensely. Though always present they became very sharp through meditation which I've done for 30 years.
