teachers usually ask intermediate players to play with 4th fing instead of open strings because open sounds loud and metallic (if you notice they sound different, and you can’t vibrate open strings!) and usually it’s to minimize string crossings

Yes, but you can add a vibrato or a ringtone/resonation if you play with a 4th finger.

It doesn't really matter, you can play a vibrato if u want if you put down a fourth finger. ALSO!!!! I know it SAYS over the note '4' but that gives you a choice!!! Don't tell me my violin teacher is wrong!
