Man, I remember becoming a huge fan of Koolkat back in 2012 cause broer was infusing electronic, dubstep and house in his music. He was signed in Hyperdub Records (UK) back in the days when niggas were sleeping on him.
We’re getting so many gems about the Smashis era through out this pod

One of the best, realist pods
Hip hop is where it is now because of egos. Everyone think he's better. Yes its competitive but right now collaborations will do. I like what Nasty and Cassper are doing.

🔥 Loved it
This was very nice.
One of the reasons Hip Hop is struggling is the lack of mentorship, there's no real development for the next group of gents to take it further. Look at Piano how Phori and Kabza have put on so many people made so many millionaires everyone is eating

"You you lames is hating and soon soon uzothuka usuvuk eDustinii, with me yaah i go extra hard i got the devil in the dress tryna sex the Gawd !!" this joint literally was the sound track to my high school years !! debatably one of Smash best verses .. S/o to speedsta now that we know, for persisting you do that one 🙌
Bro, it's crazy how an entity can use brands like to Speedsta's likeness and garner a wider reach yet under pay folks.
SA Hip Hop lost so many important leaders of the culture in the past 2 years, the state its in right now is also evident of the fact.

Shout out Speedsta man.... Motswak'hooray is one of my reference points whenever niggaz say Cass can't rap
On the topic of what happened to SA hip hop, my take 1. We lost a lot of people in hip hop in the past probably ten years (pro, hhp, aka etc) these artists had major followings and when they dipped it seems their audiences also dipped because hip hop didn't give them alternatives that they could appreciate (e.g introduction of Lucas raps, blxckie, j Molly etc) the mumbling just wasn't relating to SA. 2.the content in hip hop songs is not positive and uplifting let's be honest, now I'm not saying all of it but majority of it is very negative, toxic and evil. Where as piano brings joy to people. E.g. Piano makes you excited for the weekend, it makes you look forward to great things to come while making you feel good, Caracara did that where people were even motivated to go get a job so they can afford that bucket hat or those socks and go to the cash time parties but hip hop music now does not have that feel anymore. It's doesn't inspire you to go get a bag or achieve something great. To conclude my take, It's why you see now artists like Areece who have a solid cult base are doing well, hip hop is not doing well but there are certain hip hop artist with solid cult followings who are doing well. So it's safe to say we lost the audience together with the people who actually brought the audience. That's my take, just think yall niggas were too political to say that.

youre right bro, i can tell you now i stopped listening to mainstream SA hip hop. these guys make trash buble gum music. Im more of a underground and battle rap fan now those cats are hungry , thats where i get my motivational and inspirational messages. Whats Ironic is i dentify more with cats from upstate new york than niggas in my own country, niggas who we face the same struggle . Thats crazy. I agree with you, I tell everyone dont ever come at me with blxkie lucas raps etc and claim they hip hop niggas have no substance and as you grow up you start to see through all the bullshit. I need hip hop that speak to my soul bro, luckliy will still have your p dot o, priddy ugly, youngster cpt and jimmy wiz, touchline aswell.

Nah, Tbo Touch is definitely getting that R480k. It boils down to negotiations. How you negotiate your worth. Besides, Tbo is doing 5 shows per week (3hours each), while Speedsta did 1 show per week (which was 2hours every Saturday) which summed up to 4 shows per month.

@@temosho_ Alright but still I was not expecting anything less than 50k
HipHop needs more artists who have something to say and something to stand for. Unpopular as he might have been at times, AKA was writing to put SA on the music map and reinvest into the culture. YoungstaCPT is so valuable because he is *always* about his message and so he'll forever have a core audience (something few even understand today). Now A-Reece fucked the game up a little because he also has a core but they love *him* because instead of tweeting or interviews he speaks in the music and he makes a lot of it. The music is good, which keeps his core happy but Reece isn't a culture, he's a character. His core, loves *him*. If HipHop turned back into a community it would breed more of a following and rebuild itself. Problem is South Africans think they're as big as America, the US naturally has a *larger* population so it can afford to have split fanbases that are like "Nah I'm Drake", "Nah I'm Kendrick". Now take Europe (small) and other foreign countries, their hiphop communities lean less on beef and just get excited that they have their own brand of HipHop and support their artists. We don't even know about them on a mass scale but I've researched some and they live well, no need for US approval just body it in their home country and still eat good. Here in SA Speedsta is right, people are shit, but also artists are shit to each other. So it's "fuck you" sometimes for petty shit, if it's bars cool but we don't have the numbers. It's much worse when it's behind closed doors and we don't even know why some artists aren't working together cause the community then starts taking sides and now a full pie gets divided again. If there are 100 people who love HipHop and they have to choose between Shane, Stogie, Priddy, Reece, Nasty, Kwesta, Blxckie & Cassper? How does the industry grow if none of them collab frequently enough to say "This is SA HIP HOP and ALL of us belong"? SA needs its OWN "All I do is Win" (not the same song, the same concept). Yeah I'm aware that their are a few big collabs but not enough to connect the community. (NotBenjamin is *trying* though and he was killing it high-key. To me he is the *answer!!!!!!!!!* ) "Mayo" may have been the last time we heard a big feature with that many different big names ripping up the same beat. Anyways that's my 2cents. I loved this episode and I fuck with how Budda manages the conversations because somehow we get some controversial conversations but there's no animosity it's just an honest opinion. Choppin' it is slowly becoming my fav podcast period, not just locally.

Yoh wow, I didn't even clock this was an essay. Anyways at the end of the day, the day ends and I love rap regardless so the passion is passioning

Wow I find my self an HOUR deep, Speedsta story is interesting. Especially his journey with the current stars of SA Hip hop Balancing life and career 54:00 - 1:04:13 Metro life and entertainment: 1:05:35-1:09:00
I'll say this...the ego thing must die before it destroys your life. Smashis was so arrogant back in the days. We thank God for the growth. Truly a wonderful sight. One dude who was the lord of it was AKA, yoh! I wont say RIP coz I know he is with God, the real Lord. But his arrogance literally took his life and that of his finance. Humility is not easy and the cost to attain it comes with a lot of tears. SO nje I salute the homies!
