This 46-minute video lesson explores an in-depth look at the Nocturne in E-flat Major, Op.9 No.2 by Frédéric Chopin. Areas of focus include how to develop a soft and velvety left-hand touch, how to create long singing melodic lines, formal analysis of the piece and how to make artistic decisions based on this knowledge, how to vary the repetitions/embellishments of each section, how to conquer tricky polyrhythms, how to loosen the hand to play the rapid cadenza-like passage at the end, how to incorporate effective rubato and shaping, and many other ideas to help you become as efficient as possible in your practice sessions.

I’m barely intermediate and you make this look so easy. I’m only really getting into piano in my 70s. You play beautifully
Thank you for this Josh, my all time favorite piece! ❤️ I’m learning everyday from your lessons. God bless you. 🤗
Been playing this piece for years. Dmitri Shishkin's performance on youtube is sublime. Always appreciate tips from pros.
Thanks for making this tutorial! I've been subscribed to ProPractice for a few months now and am absolutely loving it!

Thank you so much Josh for this incredible tutorial! I can’t wait to apply these techniques and tips in my practice. Looking forward to more tutorials on other Chopin Nocturne pieces! Thank you 👏🏻😍
Great sound!
Josh, thank you so much for your very informative tutorials. When you deal with the certain piece I can hear its wonderful harmony ! I would also like to see your tutorial on Chopin's Nocturne Cis-moll No. 13
Considering the popularity of the piece, this is looooooooooong overdue hahaha No complaints though, any video of yours is worth
Awesome, great tutorial!

You should do a video on the first etude in the 2 concert etude set, by liszt.(waldesruaschen). that Would be amazing! Really enjoyed the video too. Love the way you explain it, it really helped.
Side-comment regarding John Field's nocturnes: I completely agree that Chopin's nocturnes are far richer and more engaging, but with the exception of Field's nocturne no 2 which is truly lovely (he also used a variant of it as the slow movement of one of his piano concertos). I could even imagine that it was that particular Field nocturne that inspired Chopin to write nocturnes.
I’m just a few minutes into it and I really love the idea of you talking about the structure of all the pieces if you can, because I certainly have no knowledge of structure. Can you recommend any books on piano music structure? Also,I really find it helpful when you use adjectives like “innocence” You really have a great skill with that and I’d like to learn to describe what I’m listening to. Is that something you’ve always been able to do or did someone help you with that? thank you, wonderful as always.
Nice video
Thanks a lot😍 I'm currently learning it. Could you also do tutorial on Nocturne Op. 51 No. 1, please?

Its compound Ternary form where A is loose binary form AA'BA
The subtitles hide the keys. Can we remove that?
