I prefer the long freediving fins. I am quite small and these fins make me feel much more secure in deeper water and stronger currents. They really make you dive and swim very fast 👍🏼 The very short fins are mostly for cave divers.

How dramatically different do the long fins feel in comparison to the traditional 20-25” fin (usually with a 10-12” blade) you showed at the end when diving? I know they’re more efficient, but I’m curious if you actually feel a “holy crap!” Kind of a difference when using them compared to normal fins?

I have to say that there is a significant difference that is quite noticeable when you compare the more traditional fin with the longer freediving fins, particularly when you are swimming into a current or trying to get somewhere quick. The big thing you'll notice is the amount of effort or lack of it, you have to use to propel yourself.This is particularly huge for freedivers and snorkelers as your muscles use less oxygen and you'll be able to remain under on a single breath longer. I personally, and a lot of dive/snorkel professionals will often use a sort of hybrid fin, the Mares Avanti Quattro Power fins. These aren't quite as long as a freediver's fin but longer than most other fins on the market, and very well made. The really long fins are just a bit more cumbersome to travel with if you travel a lot, while the Mares Quattro Power fins will fit easier into a large bag. Hope that helps!
