Choosing the Right Paper for Graphite Pencil Drawing

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It can be confusing knowing what to look for when choosing the right kind of paper for shading.
In this video below you get to watch over my shoulder as I test 5 different papers from the wonderful St Cuthberts Mill. It should be noted that St Cuthberts Mill recommends each one of these papers for a range of different applications. Each has certain strengths and advantages, but in this case I am specifically focussed on my personal use with graphite pencil.
Towards the end of this video I recommend my favourites from the papers I've tested. So join me on my journey through the world of paper from St Cuthberts Mill.

I've been looking for a video just like this. I assume your in Australia :-) I'm UK and only aware of Strathmore Windsor & Newton and Dealer. If you are able to demo colour pencil I'd be a happy chap. Thankyou for the video

Hi Kevin I am an Australian but currently living in the UK:) You can purchase St Cuthberts Mill papers from many local art stores and online (which are made right here in the UK.) You can get the Saunders Waterford HP paper in a block here www.saa.co.uk/saunders-waterford-block-300gsm-228-x-304mm-9-x-12-20-sheets-hp.html As for coloured pencil - yes I must do that. I am so busy creating hundreds of videos for my Complete Drawing Certificate Course which are all apart of my paid course at DrawPJ.com - you are welcome to come along and join in there too if you wish. Happy drawing!

H E L P ..... ANYONE ...... Some of my graphite portrait customers frame their own drawings instead of having them professionally framed and so you and I know that many of those drawings will not be archival for many reasons. I want to know if I can safely draw on a more permanent surface like stretched canvas or gessobord panels? The main reason is that often a portrait will be handed down for generations "if" it survives as it originally appears.
