If you're looking to install a new water filter or simple to bypass the water filter in your GE refrigerator, you can use a GE bypass filter specifically designed for this purpose. Part Number WR17X33825 Here's how to install it:
1. Locate the water filter compartment in your refrigerator, typically inside the refrigerator, either in the upper right corner or the side door refrigerator compartment.
2. Open the compartment door.
3. Remove the existing water filter, if present, by twisting it counterclockwise.
4. Insert the GE bypass filter into the compartment in place of the regular water filter. Ensure it is properly aligned, turning it clockwise until securely seated.
5. Close the compartment door.
6. If your refrigerator has a filter reset button or indicator light, you may need to reset it to reflect the water filter installation. The later GE models that require the XWFE filter will reset automatically when a new filter is installed.
7. Run two gallons of water through the dispenser for a few minutes to ensure proper flow and function. This will also clean out any loose charcoal sediment.
Using a bypass filter allows you to temporarily disable the filtration system, useful for situations like troubleshooting or when using water from a source that doesn't require filtration or you just simple can’t afford a water filter. Remember to reinstall a standard water filter when filtration is needed again.
Here is a list of GE refrigerators that use the XWFE water filter.

Can you just tape an rfid blocker on the generic filter?

I don't believe that will work. I thought the next time I would leave the label on the old filter and cut the filter in half to use the the label from the old filter.
