Choosing Arrows

Спорт

Ted Fry of Raptor Archery talks about how to choose arrows for your traditional bow. This video covers several aspects that you may want to consider, including: shaft wood, stiffness of the arrow, feather choice, brace height, mass weight/spine weight, point choice, nock, and length of arrow. www.raptorarchery.com

I was an archer for many years and heard all kind of things you had to do that just were not true! It was a sheer joy to hear someone that knows what they are talking about! The bad thing for a new archer is getting his bow tuned to him? He can't shoot to start with which renders him incapable of tuning his bow? It takes time shooting and adapting some sort of style that is repeatable before he can tune his equipment. The good part is you can get in the ball park which will save you some time! I remember when I reached the top of the bell curve! My game literally leaped forward and all because I realised what I needed to do! The main thing is be consistent with your procedure. Every shot! This was a very informative video!

you sir are a wealth of information. I have been bowhunting for 24yrs and never have I heard so much technical info come from one person. all of your points are important but I really want to know how to spline arrows for a new bow?? I am "gearing it down" this year and picking up a longbow for the first time. its 52#@28 and I am having my northern California friend napp me out some obsidian arrowheads. how do I know how long cut my arrows based on spline? do I use a trial and error method and cut 1/2" off each time until I find good reliable arrow flight? current plans are to keep it simple and use plastic nocks, hot glue the arrowheads in place, and shoot for a 550-600gr finished product.

@@RaptorArchery I was actually hoping he'd cover the difference between materials used carbon fiber, aluminum or wood arrows. My bow is a 60 in 45 pound draw phantom hunter by mandarin duck. It just came back in stock so I just ordered it and was debating on the best arrows to get for it. Up until now I've just used my girlfriend's Bow which she carved herself. I want my own I don't have that kind of talent I don't really want to wait for her to have the time to make me one. She also makes her own arrows start again she uses natural materials I was debating on the aluminum or carbon-fiber what the hell the difference was

Prices at a local shop are stupid for some uncomplicated sticks. Yes, they are not just sticks, and I guess they need to turn a profit ; nonetheless, ordered 3 lots and just made my own dozen for half the price of a dozen from the shop and I’m loving them all.

Excellent video. But one thing, I do not use cock feather to indicate feather that will stick out to make less contact with the bow, but I use it in sense that lots of shafts have some degree of grain runoff, more or less, and I like to orient it for safety sake toward the point and up, so in case of cracked arrow, which you not always notice (maybe after hitting something harder), if arrow during release splits/cracks, it flies up and away and not through you hand.
