    For covering your pears and apples and quinces against fruit flies and birds, cover each one with an old clean sock ! IT WORKS! !!!

    I lost my Anna so I went to RSI Saturday and picked up another one and a second Golden, I also picked up a Wadell pear. I'm pulling out my Fuji and putting the second Golden there. I'm going to leave the pink lady's for another season and see what happens.

    Bummer on your Anna. It's like losing a puppy when they die on you! Let me know how that Waddell does for you. We may put in a few of those if they can get that fall production.

    @@EdgeofNowhereFarm I will, I fallowed bad advise on the Anna had the mulch piled up around the trunk and the bark rotted and fell off. I won't make that mistake again.

    @@davidbauman7234 We've done the same with the same result. I'm not as diligent during the summer (the threshers are constantly throwing woodchips everywhere and we can't keep up with them), but every fall we pull all the material away from the trunks again.

    Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for what you do. I'm going to be buying property and sinking many many many fruit trees on it. Not sure how you only have 4.4K subscribers - I blame the KZread search algorithm haha. Anyway, thank you. Your videos are of great value to me. Thank you for all of the great info, and keep doing what you do! Cheers from one AZ gardener to another!

    Hi Duane, thanks for another helpful video. I didn’t realize you had quinces and had ordered a root stock from Greg Peterson. Anything special about this tree? What side of your property did you plant it?

  • @EdgeofNowhereFarm

    @EdgeofNowhereFarm

    Hey Rana. We do have a quince on both properties, but it's not something I would recommend quite yet. The tree on the old farm is growing just fine, but after 4 years in the ground has not produced a single fruit. The tree we have on the new property is really struggling to put on any growth at all. Unless something changes drastically next year we'll wind up replacing it with a Jujube, pear or apple tree. Like all of our trees, we have these in full sun. As for root stocks, I think that's part of the problem with the tree on the new property. We ordered it from an online nursery that didn't list the root stock. I get the feeling that's a big part of the problem. Greg usually has them on M-111 root stock (at least he did in the past) which is a decent root stock for us out here.

  • @EdgeofNowhereFarm

    @EdgeofNowhereFarm

    Hmm, that's a good question and I suppose they could if you're in an area with extreme cold. Although they do best with a solid amount of chill hours, so you'll need to make sure they're outside for at least some of the winter.

    @@rnbhomestead9516 oh gotcha, I suppose that would be an option in a very cold climate. With our daytime temps you wouldn't be able to get the plants to survive in a greenhouse once you hit March or so. It would just be too hot.

    You can get tropic sweet at other places. Just fruits and exotics is one that comes to mind. But a google search comes back with a decent amount. Meant to post this on the last video you posted where he told you he was the only one you can get it from. justfruitsandexotics.com/product/tropic-sweet-apple-tree/

    The university of Florida actually released the tree. They have the patent for it. Also, tropic sweet can get pollinated by other apples than just Anna.
