Choosing a pond liner or container

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I talk about the different types of pond liner and containers that can be used to build a pond.
Here's some links to the different pond liners I mentioned in the video (these are amazon affiliate links and if you make a purchase it won't cost you any extra):
EPDM rubber pond liner- amzn.to/45F2TeR
LLPDE pond liner- amzn.to/3Lf39tt
HDPE pond liner- amzn.to/3QLQVvT
PVC pond liner- amzn.to/3qIYQzo
I also mentioned the pdf I have, you can find that here: ozponds.com/pond-equipment/

    I have an LLDPE liner from Home Depot, and a CAC told me it would work fine/not to worry to much. I've got rocks that are a couple hundred pounds on it without problems so far.

    I just put in a 20x25 LLDPE liner I bought on Amazon. I first lined the pond with carpet then the liner and I'm thinking about adding another liner on top of the other one. The 2 liners cost less than half of the EPDM liner. I'm hoping the carpet works out to protect the cheap 20 mil liner.

    I found your channel and have been watching your videos for the past 24 hours. They’re great! We have an old pond with an enormous cistern and a complicated pool pump. I want to convert it to something like what you do, but don’t know where to start. Have you done conversions before?

    Thanks for the HDPE vs. EPDM comparison. The choice does come down to a bit of risk vs reward, The tried and tested EPDM, versus the significantly cheaper HDPE, which isn't as tried and tested in the pond scene, but is widely used industrially where rocks aren't involved like mining. Think I am still leaning towards HDPE for a future DIY Recreation Pond, but still a little on the fence.

    Just found you chanel and loving the info. Have you looked in to Geosynthetic Clay Liners? Looks like a great option to reduce the amount of plastic going in to the ground.

    Any thoughts on seaming a new liner on to an existing EPDM liner that’s 10 years old? Thinking about adding a negative edge to an existing pod.

  • @Ozponds

    @Ozponds

    It can certainly be done. I really hate seaming liner. If it’s a neg edge I wonder if you can get enough drop so that all you need is overlap.

    Good job! 🙂 Question. Obviously you do everything you can to keep the liner out of full sun, that said have you had any issues where for whatever reason the liner was exposed for an extended period of time?

  • @Ozponds

    @Ozponds

    10 ай бұрын

    You’ve probably seen bits of liner exposed in my ponds. I like to know where the edge is, this is where most leaks occur. Eventually the plants cover it. That said I’ve had small areas exposed for years, still stretchy, still strong, that’s why theres a 20 year UV exposure warranty.

    What do you think about using used billboard tarp as pond liner?

    @Ozponds that's no what it's made for. But people have used it for that. It is made for billboards. So needs to be water proof and weather resistant in direct sunlight for years amd years.

    Noob Q alert, but natural bodies of water don't have plastic lining below them. Is prefer to avoid the future cost of putting a load of that in the ground, so any idea how to replicate natural water 'container'? Maybe it's because of supply of water exceeds/matches the drainage rate, but would be great to get your feedback. Otherwise I'm thinking of buying an old viking replica boat made from wood to put in the ground as the bed lol

    @@SherrickDuncan wouldn’t a water tank be better for fire protection? The problem with open bodies of water for fire protection is that fires often come in times of drought. I’m guessing you must have a spring or a bore? Either way I’m not comfortable with shopping bags. I’d love to hear what you end up doing and how it works out. Good luck with it.

    Im regretting every decision I've made. Currently have black algae and ready to pull everything in tge water out so nothing poureous... wood, rocks, bricks... but tgen my liner slippery and lots of folds. I have a tier shelf all the way around without bay filters working and pulling everything out no point in shelves with folds of liner.... ready to build a wall and backfill my bays and get liner welded with seams..... have nothing but liner in the water and call it a pool. Non of my builds have worked my pipes are always clogged, my yards a cinstant mess, between leaves, pollen, sun, algae, black alage and constantly cleaning filters because my natural filters just are not cutting it with the nutritional load of half a year of tbunder storms leaves and soooooo much pollen. Pond constantly full if i scoop it all out wind just blows more in. My natural filters had not a chance with dtorms in top that instantly turn the pond soup or neon green and every storm brings green grass to mow and scoup out. We figured it out and even got to finally swim when its not 110° outside between storms. Spent half yr running outside in torrential downpours to pump water out of the pond so that it doesn't overflow. Every time I do it beforehand going to get as much rain and then I have to fill it and then the next day would rain when it have to drain it and then fill it and it was no fun. We had issues with our float valve overflow pump once on created suction so once off and water drooped it created vacuum anyways and drain way more water than id want but what can u do with storms tgat dump a foot in the pond in few hrs in middle if the night and no drain pipe can handle it. We finally figured things iut storms settled down and we got to swim. Until black algae showed up. Everything covered in it. I literally rebuild my filters and bays 3 times already in a yr and have to again pull everything out.... if i lower my water leaves will get stuck in every space between rocks that it can. So water must stay up to filter and be high enough for my skimer pit to get all the leaves... so pulling out rocks and apll my beams surrounding my shelves some completely black now. Not sure we had a chance when the water that fell from the sky was enough to fill the pond 3 full times in a mater of months. Unusual weather for us. Preparing for Unusual winter

    Great video as always. The non woven geo textile is unreal I purchased a roll of it when building my pond. Epdm is definately the way to go but it's hard to throw that much money at a peace of rubber. But it's definately awesome to work with. One question Kev, what about RPE liner?
