Well, personally I think this recommendation is for people with greater strength, perhaps. I used to train with a Stiga WRB back in the day (20 years ago) and it was pretty light. Played with it and got to National Level II Player of China by winning a city-level tournament. I recently came back to the game and tried Viscaria. Not enough control. Switched to Nittaku Basaltec Innerforce, loved it. Paired it with Hurricane National version for forehand and D64 for backhand, weighed 179g. It felt so heavy, and perhaps had something to do with the center of gravity of the blade being closer to the head. Then switched it to G1 and S1, and now it weighs 171g. Feels awesome now. Honestly, if you're not pro player with consistent away from the table play, a lighter blade is much much better since it allows for faster recovery and acceleration, which would more than compensate for a less dense blade. After all, it is all a matter of preference.

I like a medium weight racket the most. It makes me put more effort into a forehand topspin and prevents me from having a bad technique. Sometimes it is hard to play my backhand but with some weight training for the forearms it doesn't feel too heavy

When I was a beginner, my favourite blade weighed 160g (maximum thickness medium sponge rubbers, but quite light blade), now I prefer 178-184g (a little bit harder rubber, normal weight blades with soft/medium touch). Rubbers with 45-48 degree sponge hardness give me the most confidence (Nittaku Fastarc C-1, Victas VJC > 07 Sticky Extra, Andro Hexer Grip/Powergrip). I will try to develop my technique further to handle rackets with around 190g weight effectively as well.

Hi, it's me again. I just remembered to my earlier comment, and I'm here to tell, that I am having progress. I have many rackets heavier than before, and after training to execute swings with those, my game got noticeably more stable and powerful. My current rackets: Yinhe Pro Feeling + max. Rakza Z both sides (196g), Yinhe U1-VB + max DHS GoldArc 8 (50 degree) both sides (195g), DHS Power G12 + 2.2mm Hurricane 8 (39 degree) both sides (192g).

i just upgraded to a new bat few weeks ago last one was 178 g with huison blade and taiji t88 rubbers but this one is 170g with tibhar champ and rakza 7 and valmo 1.8 mm rubbers and honestly its way more balanced for me before these 2 i had one for 198 g which was a commercial premade racket and it was honestly really hard for me to control placement in that and make backhand topsin as I am most a backhand attacker who is transitioning to forehand now. with the new racket it is honestly so much fun to grip the ball and make fine adjustments to my placement without losing much of topsin and it is easier on the flicks as well but I still have to practice more as most of the times I end up overhitting the ball and it goes out of the table

I started playing with Stiga Offensive Classic with Yasaka Rigan 2.0 on both sides, then tried H3 on forehand for 4 months, then Yasaka Rakza Z on forehand, then Yasaka Mark V on backhand, then switched to Avalox P500 blade which is my current setup at 184 grams. My next upgrade will be Yasaka Mark V HPS on backhand, but I am in no rush to change equipment. I think its smart to take small steps into your level and I have found the speed, flexibilty, hardness, control etc. that I like right now. Mark V rubbers are light weight, so it is good to pair with the heavy rubber of Rakza Z.

I am curious about serving... Does a heavy setup/blade give you more advantages ? I believe that the serving and receive is a huge part of the game, a lot of points are decided at this stage. Service is one of my strong points and I find that very heavy setups do not allow me to be as deceptive as I can be with a lighter one. Then again I don't mean feather light ! But on a reverse pendulum, you can can be much faster with a lighter version... my opinion and my "feel" in any case. What do you say ? On the receive side of the things a heavy racket will provide better control and more spin on the return... I believe.

I think it's a matter of personal taste. After I quit for a entire year due to Covid-19 I feel muscle paint after a while when FH/BH transition or back flicking /bh. OTOH new trend rubbers become harder&harder, denser so heavier too, so it's almost imposible to choose any light but solid combo with enough speed. My last setup was close to the 200gr range, but I think I'll go back to my light acoustic in order to prevent injuries until I get used once again with proper training.

Hi Alexander, I love playing R7 on my backhand and especially on the Fextra blade because it gives me good feeling and control when blocking topspin balls from my opponents . The fextra is a (in my opinion) fast but controlable blade with a little flex. Topspin balls, in my case with R7 on the backhand, are very easy to play on the Fextra. This combination creates a lot of spin. But keep in mind it's only my opinion. I hope this will help you a little.

In table tennis it is more correct to say blade then racket even though it is a racket sport. The weight is not just the blade, the rubber affects the total weight. Racket is commonly used in tennis and badminton. For the penhold it is much easier to play with light blade and rubbers. There is so much stress on the wrist with heavier blades. Although the heavier blade is usually thicker, it is easier for penhold grip.
