Chomsky: Cutting off military aid to Israel would have “major effect” on Middle East

“There are some very simple moves that could be made in U.S. policy that would change the situation in the Middle East dramatically,” says Noam Chomsky, noting that U.S. law prevents aid from being given to any military involved in systematic human rights abuses. “If the U.S. were to live up to U.S. law, we would cut off aid to the IDF, the Israeli army.”

Couldn’t agree more, the holy lands shouldn’t be permanently occupied by any one religion or nation, but instead designated as the WORLDS and GODS property, where every nation could converge into one point and build relationships by developing and furthering ALL OF OUR holy land, together! They who do not drink from the sea of wisdom, die in the desert of life.

Chavez took the richest country in the Americas, after the US and Canada, and drove it into bankruptcy. How would the US then fund or even maintain their own military if living up to the Patrick Leahy Law prevents funding any military that is systematic involved in human rights abuses. - Only recently the US has killed some 1.5 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan alongside the British military. - They gave skids of cash to Iran which in turn was used for terrorism and development of nuclear weapons. - Still to this day America controls occupied United States of America. It's been 244 years people. - Committed genocide against the Native American indigenous peoples to near extinction. - Most Native American survivors live in refugee camps called "Indian Reservations"

you are right, times are changing) Israel has a strong and advanced military potential. Despite being a relatively small country, Israel has invested significantly in its defense capabilities and has developed a technologically advanced military. It possesses a well-equipped and well-trained military force that includes a highly skilled army, air force, and navy. Israel is known for its advanced weapons systems, intelligence capabilities, and innovative military technologies. It has developed sophisticated missile defense systems, such as Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Arrow, which provide protection against various threats. Israel also has a strong intelligence community that plays a crucial role in gathering and analyzing information. Additionally, Israel has a highly efficient and effective military strategy and doctrine. It places a strong emphasis on intelligence gathering, preemptive strikes, and maintaining a qualitative edge over its adversaries. Israel's military has demonstrated its capabilities through successful operations and campaigns, such as the Six-Day War in 1967, the Entebbe raid in 1976, and various counterterrorism operations. Furthermore, Israel has a mandatory military service policy, which ensures a large pool of well-trained personnel. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) consist of both conscripts and professional soldiers who undergo rigorous training and are prepared to defend the country. Overall, Israel's military potential is characterized by its technological innovation, strategic thinking, and well-trained personnel, which contribute to its ability to protect its national security and deter potential threats.

In point of fact, many of the "ultra-nationalists", as he call them, and New Right wing populists, as opposed to Neo-cons and Evangelicals, are hostile or at least suspicious of US support and alliance with Israel. Exemplum: Pat Buchanan. He opposed both Gulf Wars, the aggression towards Iran, the invasion of Yugoslavia (Clinton) and support for Saudi Arabia in Yemen. He has criticized, at great cost to his reputation (being called a Nazi, or anti -Semite), our uncritical policy towards Israeli actions and aggressions. Whilst most Dem/Rep politicos supported all these measures. Chomsky, who I respect, needs to distinguish more precisely. I say this in charity! LOL!

I'm strong for the Bernie Tulsi team, but Tulsi has a serious "speaking out" type problem to deal with. She needs to come clean with us about prior speeches regarding Israel and Palestine. That said, I think Tulsi is the most real of any presidential candidate I've seen in 70 years, and this shows most clearly as she evolves in better understanding of the world around her and her place in it... just like we all do! "Service above Self" is something she truly believes and lives in her life and a Peoples' Movement of which she is a member/leader is far more powerful and important than a presidential election cycle, win or lose! TULSI/BERNIE 2020

Shame on you for shaming Bernie Sanders, the only candidate who has consistently fought for the rights of the people for 40 years, everyone else is a copycat including Tulsi. All you do with shallow thinking is give the DNC the opportunity to annoint another Hillary Clinton

If the US withdrew support for Israel, the nations of the Middle East would attack Israel and we'd see a genocide that would make Hitler proud. Israel has not expanded since 1967 and has even returned the Sinai to Egypt since then. That's a pretty poor expansion policy. They've controlled the west bank since 67 and although one could criticise them for the settlements that are being built, there has been no expansion in over 50 years. So that expansion argument isn't all that valid, either.

@Dan i LOL....I wouldn't be here if I were Jewish. My parents would have been killed during the Holocaust. My uncle was sent to Westerbork, the Jewish detention centre in the Netherlands, and held there, until they could send him to the POW camp, at Texel, because he wasn't Jewish. He was accused of espionage against the Nazis. He was sent to Westerbork because it was only 10 kilometres from where he lived. Sorry bud......You'll have to come up with a better argument to back your claims than to call me a Jew.

@Dan i It's very common in Holland, as well. My ancestors came from Silesia, around 1670, and moved to northern Holland. At that time, the name was spelled with 2 "n"s, Havemann, still spelled that way in Germany. They dropped an "n" to make it more Dutch looking.
