Choking Child First Aid - New 2020 AHA / ILCOR Guidelines | CPR Certification Institute

Updated for new 2020 AHA / ILCOR guidelines. Choking Child First Aid training video by the CPR Certification Institute (Authorized Health Ed Solutions Training Center). Mark Dzwonkiewicz, the lead instructor from Health Ed Solutions, demonstrates the proper way of providing basic life support and the Heimlich maneuver to a choking child victim. He touches on the following updated AHA and ILCOR guidelines:
Responsive child
👉🏻 Recognize choking victim
👉🏻 Ask the child if he can speak
👉🏻 Perform the Heimlich maneuver but do it on one knee until the obstruction comes out or the victim becomes unresponsive
Unresponsive child
👉🏻 Call 911 Immediately
👉🏻 Begin CPR*
*Before each ventilation, look into the mouth and see if the obstructive can be removed
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more video lessons from the CPR Certification Institute!
Here is some more information about the CPR Certification Institute:
As a Health Ed Solutions Authorized Training Center, CPR Certification Institute was created to achieve a simple goal - to make learning life-saving skills convenient and more accessible for both medical professionals and laypersons. Our commitment to providing robust training and testing options is the driving force behind our curriculum. Our courses are medically accurate, flexible, and engaging.
Our online certification courses are created by board-certified medical professionals and reviewed for accuracy by the Health Ed Solutions Medical Review Board. Each practice test is uniquely generated, and every final exam is designed to ensure you have learned all of the skills to react when there is a life-threatening emergency.
We believe that the more people who know life-saving skills, the more lives that can be saved. Our courses are created to benefit a wide range of people: high school students getting ready to graduate, nurses, physicians, medical techs, first responders, lifeguards, nursing home and daycare workers, and even the average layperson who might someday find themselves in the position of being able to offer aid during an emergency.
Being able to administer appropriate CPR or First Aid care can mean the difference between life and death. Those who do not receive CPR immediately following a cardiac event rarely make it to a hospital alive. Your quick action could mean they have a greater chance of surviving.
Our courses cover CPR and AED training, First Aid, Infant CPR, Babysitting, and Bloodborne Pathogens. We also offer the more advanced ACLS, PALS, BLS, and NRP certifications. It’s a small time and cost commitment to become certified, but it can make a huge difference in someone’s life. All of our certifications are 100% online and available from any mobile device or computer.
Sign up to become certified today, and join the ranks of trained lifesavers across the globe!

My 3 year old son swallowed a coin, I immediately put him facing down on my lap and gave 3 4 big pats on his back, gravity did the rest. Those were the longest 10 seconds of my life. Every parent needs to learn these techniques. Time is crucial, don't rely on ambulance and get to work.

@@TheINFJChannel Ouf... didn't think we were still living in the 50s! Oh well this is the internet after all. I have no idea what me being in a bikini has to do with being humble. Someone being happy with their body and wearing a bathing suit doesn't mean they think they're more important than others, nor does it mean they're inauthentic. It's like assuming that just because a girl wears a shorter top, it must mean she sleeps around. If someone doesn't buy my 'authenticity' solely based on the fact that I'm wearing a bathing suit, then that says more about them than it does about me. I can definitely see the Judging personality trait in your INFJ personality ;P (but not being rude!). Helping others is probably something you enjoy doing, which is great, but maybe your help does more harm than good sometimes. Just food for thought!

You missed something😁.. In a real situation, sometimes they might be able to just cough out the foreign object that is stuck in there trachea. Which is why you would first ask them to try to cough it out. Because if you preform a Hymlic technique while there possibly able to cough out that object, it can become even more trapped in there airway which would cause them to lose consciousness😄

I’m surprised this training doesn’t suggest that you sweep the back of the child’s throat with you finger to remove any food/item that may be stuck before beginning the Heimlich maneuver. Two of my children have choked on food and both times I started with the maneuver and it didn’t help. But when we swept the back of their throats with our forefingers we were able to remove the food. Not saying parents shouldn’t try the Heimlich, but the throat swipe might be lifesaving as well.
