Chokes as a Percentage...Roger Pace

Спорт

In this video we look at what percentage of our shot goes into a 30" circle at 40 Yards. No 8 shot has about 400 pellets in each cartridge and we look at how many pellets go into that 30" circle with each different choke. Just a different way of thinking about chokes.

Thanks for making this video it’s probably the most clear & easy to understand on chokes I’ve seen so far.

Hi Roger, Best basic choke explanation on the web that I have ever viewed. I could explain this back to my wife, so I knew that I readily and easily understood your chart and verbal explanation. Thank you again Roger for your time and efforts putting this type of info out there for us. I love you charts and I appreciate your color, boarders and the time it takes to make each one. Take care and be safe, see the clay, shoot the clay! Rick Mansberger East Lansing MI. USA

Hi Roger I love your informative videos. More recently I've improved my trap shooting scores to 22 and 23. The reason is I've discovered a combination of light modified in the bottom barrel using Fiocchi FBlack 8.5 2.2mm shot size and modified in the top barrel with Fiocchi 7.5 2.4mm shot size for the back up second shot. I found the sweat spot in my timing with this combination at the distance to break the clay. Both barrels are producing very good breaks with some smokers and no chippers, I'm shooting a Caesar Guerini Summit Impact. So food for thought here that 3/4 and full chokes are not always the starting point for shooting trap and different manufacturers chokes, cartridges and barrels may produce different results. I discovered my combination by testing chokes and patterns at 30 and 40 yards on the pattern plate, other than this shooters will rely on trial and error and may never find the sweet spot cartridge, choke and clay break range combination to suit the speed of acquiring the target with a satisfying break. Once this has been mastered the confidence grows and 25 on occasions are now possible. Hope this comment helps others, regards Paul

hello . Here is my question, finally decided to buy a Benelli M2, when I came to the store I looked at a few copies and all the rings that are formed during the transition of nozzles to the barrel these rings Not perfectly smooth, Well, not that very much But everything still not perfect, now I’m wondering , am i carping to much or is it still benelli bug, Will it later have an impact on pattern or not? Thank you in advance for your attention.

@@rogerpace9322 yes sure inside. In short, I had in mind the misalignment of the chokes with the barrel. (Coaxiality )

Hi Roger Just to confuse the situation I have a European and a USA Skeet choke the European choke is more open than the Cylinder choke and the USA is tighter than Cylinder .

My 1956effie...bottom barrel is always first...for skeet use open chokes ...skeet/cylinder...for trap...tighter chokes...3/4/full.

All depends on the targets and the range !! Running targets shoot open first then tighter second !! Incoming targets you do opposite! ! With skeet all targets are fairly close so usually as open as possible is the go !! And small shot !! And a shorter gun is also preferred for skeet ! 26 or 28 inch !! Down the line and trap all targets are running !! I personaly shoot field and game and so all targets are different and at different distances !! And it fully represents a hunting situation !! So all depends on what disiplin you are going to shoot !! Anyhow happy shooting and enjoy !!!

Might be different Down Under, but cylinder in American guns is a barrel with no amount of choke added. I know constriction rates on some British guns are different then Yank guns. Not sure about other makes.

I use cylinder chokes for grouse hunting in the northern states. Mostly quick shots at birds busting through pines. You need as much shot in the air and spread out as you can. Tough birds to hit even with a pointing dog. Cheers Roger.
