I feel the same way. I have no issues with women wanting to express their sexuality, however you can just feel when it’s forced vs natural. I agreed with what you said about it being mainly black women who revert to overly sexual antics to get noticed which sucks. I just get tired of everything being so oversexual.

Thank you for saying this. Too many people defend Chloe’s hyper sexuality because “she’s grown” or “she doesn’t owe us being covered up.” But those responses are beyond tired at this point. Why do women growing up HAVE to become hyper sexual and show every little bit of themselves? We don’t hold men to that same standard or expectation. Chloe and Halle are incredibly talented and the direction Chloe is going in diminishes her true talent. It’s a distraction. Her singing is buried under overproduction and the visuals are just vulgar. Normalizing that kind of imagery has been a problem for a while and it makes me sad to see Chloe doing the same under the guise of some kind of feminist freedom. Artists like Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill were and are considered sexy, but they weren’t vulgar. The manufactured necessity of hyper sexuality in music and media is frustrating to say the least.

My only controversial opinion about Chloe is that her music is not living up to her talent. I HATE to say this because I really love her and Halle. But ungodly hour was one of the best albums that I heard in a long time and I just don’t understand how the same artist who produced/worked on ungodly hour can be releasing music like “have mercy” or “treat me”…. These songs are over-produced and sound like 2015 music. I also worry that her talent/voice is getting lost in her solo music because of all the background noise and the overproduction. A girl of her caliber should be making much better music than what we’re getting because she HAS made wonderful music before! She’s focusing a lot on the visuals, like the music videos and dancing, but when most people listen to music, we’re listening on a streaming service where the song isn’t accompanied by visuals. So, while having great visuals is nice, you also have to have a good song and her solo music doesn’t have re-play value or longevity. It’s just frustrating to think that she has so many brilliant people surrounding her (Halle, the Carters, etc.) and they aren’t giving her this feedback???? It seems like she’s trying to break into the mainstream and be A-list which I get, but please don’t sacrifice quality for fame. You can definitely have both!

  • @originalblerd

I completely and wholeheartedly agree with your opinion, but I think they _are_ giving her this feedback lol. That’s why her album isn’t coming out, or at least not anytime soon. I believe they are either having her rework it or it’s been shelved. Her singles have underperformed, they’re not taking a chance on releasing a flop and we all know that everything that comes out of Beyoncé’s camp has to be up to her standard. I think people forget that we are witnessing Chloe find herself as a solo artist in real time. Even as 1/2 of Chloe x Halle, they did not strike critical & commercial gold until their second album. Beyoncé did not come out the gate as the machine she is now, y’all completely forgot about her REAL solo debut single “Work It Out” that flopped. As a result Matthew made her scrap her entire first album and start from scratch, and we received Dangerously in Love a year later. The only difference for Beyoncé is that her failures took place before the age of social media where people can witness your artistic and commercial missteps and weigh in with their opinions in real time. Chloe has the work ethic, drive, and talent to find mainstream success we just have to stick beside her.

@@originalblerd I agree with you and I am sticking beside her because I have a soft spot for artists that I know work really hard but seem to be struggling to see the rewards of their labor. I thought Ungodly Hour was a fantastic album and I think their “Do it” music video is like the perfect mix of classy and sexy. I think Chloe can do what she wants but people can’t expect everyone to like it. I just feel like she is an attention seeker in whatever form it takes. I know if she continues the type of songs, videos and posts she has been doing she will be successful but I just think it’s a shame. I’m looking forward to Halle’s solo career and hope it’s more about the music and I hope for her success.

However, Beyonce can captivate her audience with her style in performing regardless if she is performing a more up-tempo song or a slower R&B song.

11:52 minutes in, and I liked and subbed! I cannot wait to binge watch your content. You are like a beautiful breath of fresh air. Effervescent, honest, unbiased, and raw in the most elegant way. I’m glad I found your channel, and I agree with you about Miss Chloe. She has such an amazing voice with many layers, colors, and spectacular range! She is also a lovely young lady (as is her sister). It genuinely saddens me to see a woman with infinite talent resort to shock value, reducing herself to just another “baddie in the game” rolling around on the ground, ass out, spreading her legs and slapping her coochie. I get it when it’s some “influencer” or “reality star” turned (at best) mediocre rapper chick who doesn’t write or produce her own lazy, fast-food p-poppin’ anthems for the shake junts. Those women have nothing more to offer, and the only way for them to stay “relevant” is to do what they do. Chloe Bailey is better than that, and she does not need to be doing this. Or, at least, grow into it, over years, so that when she hits the stage or serves a new music video, it feels authentic, sensuous, a woman fully in her element and owning it because the shit she’s singing and the way she is performing, you *KNOW* that it’s something that grown ass woman knows all about and she will wear that boldness rather than the boldness wearing her. With Chloe, it’s “cringy” and uncomfortable because it is so obviously performative and it comes off rather desperate. It’s giving “Baby girl hasn’t even had her first love, let alone known the majesty and rapture of lovemaking and reaching the highest of natural highs…but there she goes, playing dress up, frantically flailing about, just making a fool of herself.” I’m not a prude by any stretch of the imagination. Janet Damita Jo Jackson is *my icon/legend/Empress/forever favorite,* and she does sensual and erotic better than anyone on the face of this planet. I was a child when Control came out. I was in 6th grade when Rhythm Nation came out. I was entering high school when self-titled/janet came out. I was in my first year of college when The Velvet Rope came out (one of the greatest, most important albums of all time). I was a young woman embarking on my independence when All For You came out. Those albums, and Janet mean so very much to me, and each one is a profoundly significant touchstone, a soundtrack to my life. I mention Janet because many of her lyrics and performances have been incredibly explicit and intimate, but it never ever felt vulgar or trashy, desperate or corny. It was beautiful and it was a natural progression, a “floetry,” if you will. That’s the absolute best way I can articulate and convey my feelings on Miss Chloe and why you aren’t the only one who feels conflicted or uncomfortable with what we are seeing. I’m so happy to have found your channel, as I’m not seeing any other KZreadrs really discussing this in a meaningful, honest, productive way. Have you watched her latest music video? I was beyond disappointed to hear yet another song about her ass and her (alleged) sexual prowess. I was saddened (and bored) to see more skin, more booty clapping, more p-poppin’, more awkward gestures alluding to sucking and f**king. I’m just being blunt. Now, where does she go from here? Seriously. Where?

Chloe just seems to have an unhealthy desire for fame specifically. Where as her sister seems to just simply want to be a successful vocalist she doesn’t seem to care for mega fame like her sister. I also I grew up watching them on KZread and that’s something I’ve noticed since their KZread days. I worry about Chloe too cause we all know the industry can be very dark and she seems to be headed towards that darkness cause she’s so desperate.

I don’t think you’re a hater. On the other hand as someone who has been a fan just as long; her performing & music style has been a natural progression. The performances during the tail end of the TKAA era are evident of the performer she was going to grow into. I’ve personally always viewed this version of Chloe as her more authentic self. Many of us could tell she’s been itching to pop out. I feel your level of talent shouldn’t dictate where you go musically & to claim her being above “Have Mercy” is a slight. The video, vocal layering, performances, etc is all hard work. I feel your disconnect coupled with your disgust with her & your want for her to tone it down is more so a you problem from the expectations you had on her. She has a predominantly black female fan base who are connecting; her trip to Spelman university is quite telling. I think she just no longer makes music for… You. Love & peace ✊🏾❤️✊🏾

A couple things. Concerning Chloe and Halle, its only natural that Chloe is doing what she's doing. Its a common cycle, the more attention you recieve, the more you gravitate away from how you got the attention to begin with. I remember them having a more modest appearance/ approach (but, you know... fame and things). Some thoughts for you... if you're gonna open up a can of worms on someone, dont just throw it on the floor, throw it in their face(people who hate), smear it all over em. Idk how deep youtube goes with "censorship" and "hate speech" but if you wanna say she acting like a heaux now, then say it. One problem with women today, they lack modesty, discretion, integrity, thats why i like your channel, because you speak your mind, but do it all the way. It's like saying, "yeah you can be a heaux, but not too much of a heaux." Either way its messed up. And a womans liberty should not just be associated with hypersexual material.

It's funny how people will voice their opinions on how she uses her fame. What really IS the problem with her being herself on stage doing what she loves? YOUR career is nothing but you putting your two cents in everyone's situations. She is still a very talented musician nonetheless, but it's on you if you choose to focus on what you think she's doing "wrong". She's grown up and become one with her sensuality and how she presents herself...there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with how she's using her body.

People are voicing their opinions because they can voice their opinions. No one had a problem with her “being herself” on stage. Thats not the focus point. No one had a problem about how she’s using her adulthood. If that was the case, we wouldn’t give her the attention that we do. What people think about her are not based on careers. That makes no sense. Its based on what they think about her. She’s a celebrity. She sings for her audience. And we have a say in what is going into our ears and what is being seen with our eyes. Most singers are inspirational. And if we wanna be inspired, we gotta know why.
