god i miss Satoshi Kon. all too briefly did you touch the world. fortunately, you left behind a positively epic filmography. this comment will ultimately disappear in time, but i would like to thank you(here and now) for bringing your visions to the world. if there is some measure of justice, you'll be remembered for years to come

Two dreamers coming together to make the masterpiece known as Millennium Actress. Satoshi Kon's imagination and film style along side Susumu Hirasawa's surreal sound rivals Miyazaki films. Every Satoshi Kon movie touches your soul one way or another. You will be missed Kon, may your journey never end.

Hollywood can't reach the complexity and the emotion that japanese animation can do, especially a true master like Sir Kon. Let his filmo in animation. Live action can't show same things with such power.

I cried the day Satoshi Kon died. I cried for his family, the man, the artist, all that he accomplished and most of all - all that he could've accomplished. I followed his work from Perfect Blue and all the way to Paprika (and everything in between) and his genius is irreplaceable and his loss leaves a hole that no one ca fill.

I remember when I first watched this movie more than 10 years ago and I cried like baby. Back then I was just as naive with a stupid crush on someone I knew I'd never see again, so I could relate to some of Chiyoko's feelings. I grew out of that crush of course, but I still cry watching the film because now I see Chiyoko in a different light. She's the embodiment of the below: Dedicate yourself wholly to your passion, whatever that may be. Never forget it, never lose hope and never give up. ...and it's f*cking beautiful. We should all try to be a little bit more like Chiyoko. On another note, I recently learnt the lyrics to this song (the two lines the girl sings): Don't say, don't say, don't say the word "like" Don't say, don't say, don't say the word "love" I've always found this song sad and beautiful and now that I know the what the lyrics are saying, it's even more beautiful and reinforces what I wrote above... This movie was never about love, it was about dedication.

That said, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Millennium Actress. It follows a director and his cameraman who have tracked down a famous actress, who became a recluse when she dropped out of films 30 years prior. The director returns a key to her that he found, which causes her to reflect on her career, as well as the story behind the key she carried. Really, really fantastic movie. Also, be prepared to cry like a baby.

I know what you mean - considering what happened, it's probably the best outcome for her, because at least she can pass on knowing that the moon isn't yet full. It would've been really sad if she'd found out what'd happened to her painter, but there's no way Genya would devastate her like that.

Nope. Although the director for Millennium Actress was Satoshi Kon, who was also responsible for Paprika, Paranoia Agent, and Tokyo Godfathers (All works that I *HIGHLY* recommend). Also of note is that the music for Millennium Actress, Paprika, and Paranoia Agent (as well as the anime adaptation of Berserk) was handled by Susumu Hirasawa, hence why the music for all of them are fantastic.

@zombiesquirrels8D basically Millenium Actress told the story of chiyoko fujiwara, who back during her youth was a famous actress. of course, along with being an actress, she had met an artist who she let take refuge at her home. along with telling chiyoko's story, the movie was a 'play within a play', so some scenes seemed more confusing than others. pretty much though the movie was about the famous chiyoko's life of acting, plus her own chasing of the artist she had fallen in love with.
