Is it possibile to know what are those two chips visible on the PCB? One is the BT one, and the other? Can you report che models? Thanks!

It looked like you were pulling some adhesive apart. Could these perhaps be non-destructively opened with a hotplate, alcohol and molybdenum wire similar to a mobile phone screen? I have a device with a dead battery here and will give it a try.

Give it a try but I don't think so. Once its open it going to be hard to make it ring again.

How about drilling two tiny holes where the soldering points are, and recharging the LiPo battery? Should be very doable.

That would be awesome if its doable. I have feeling though the battery is not rechargeable though.

@@ModernDayTech I think all LiPo batteries are rechargeable. You just need to know the cutoff current (180mA) and I'm assuming it runs off 3V like other chipolos.

That explains why I could never get it to take a charge.

You should definitely burn open one of these trackers. lol Thanks for sharing. I'm sure people will be hacking these things to replace the battery.

I'm about to drill two holes in the case based on the terminal locations estimated by his closeup on the board, so I can try to hook up a charging current and see if I can recharge the battery. My chipolo card is still working, so I'll test the current and report back which is + and -

With the battery at the bottom, the left contact is +, right contact is - (with the case still on, that would be with the button up and the chipolo logo at the bottom). The battery voltage is 3V as expected. Mine is at 2.82V, so I suspect the app triggers a warning when the voltage drops below a certain point. I'm going to apply a 4.2V charge from my camera battery charger for about 20 minutes and see what happens.

​@@primoztomec I was able to recharge it with a current of just over 3v, careful not to overload the circuitry. But it only lasted for two days before the Chipolo powered off again. Then I stepped up the current but got no response. I haven't had time to put into it again. But these devices could definitely be rechargeable if Chipolo wanted them to be. In their current state the Card is extremely non-eco friendly. This is an expired Chipolo Card, but I've also repaired several Chipolo classics that were defective. Chipolo's quality control is terrible as far as I can tell. They replaced a few of them and even sent me a new Chipolo ONE to test out, but it only lasted a year before the beep tone was barely audible. That, combined with app bugs, and I'm not such an enthusiastic user. I hear they have a new product coming that works with Apple's Find My tech. Hopefully they improved their quality, but I'm not rushing to find out, unless they want to send me a beta to test or something. One thing they really should do is offer a trade in program for people who have several Chipolos, because I'm definitely not going to dump a bunch of money into new ones until I'm sure they work better than the old.
