I've always admired the simple elegance of AK inspired systems. But this, this is genius. Copying the basic operation of the AK fire selector is a simple and intuitive adaptation. I _LOVE_ how the dust cover is not only secured by the guide rod, but also by the receiver. Now hinging it forward like on AKS-74U and you have a perfect soldier-proof SMG. This whole system just seems like a proto-Vityaz. How can you _not_ love it??? Although if I have any criticism, the stock may have been better adapted from the PPS-43's overfolder. Underfolders just don't hit all the notes with me.

Wow I never thought I’d see this stripped. From a cross section I saw of the suppressed ammunition, it appeared to be a 7.62X39 bullet in a 7.62 Tokarev case.

It does 7.62x25mm pistol round and not the Type 64/67 pistols’ low power 7.65x17mm round.

Never seen a Type 64 disassembled before: where did you find this one? The Royal Armouries collection? I remember seeing Type 64 in a ‘world military weapons’ when I was a kid and even then wondered why you wouldn’t just suppress a standard weapon

Despite it being integrally suppressed, the suppressor on this could actually be removed, since this gun’s suppressor must be frequently changed and cleaned after being used, my grandfather served with one of these

This gun is only found in IGI 2 game

Nice video Matt. Just a thought on the ammo, perhaps the spitzer bullet was used so as ensure bullet stability at the lower subsonic velocities!

type 67 suppressed pistol used to working with this one

Gosh, I can't believe I'm seeing someone dismantle such a rare firearm, there is very little information on the Type 64 that can be found even in China.

i learned of this from the video game Project IGI and it fascinated me

I just found out about this weapon and it is now one of my favourite firearms! It’s just so cool looking they need to make this in something like 5.7 round or 5.45x18. God damn I wish I lived in the USA so I could make a clone of one of these but no UK “safety” all the way

Can I try to translate your videos and upload them to the video site Bilibili within China? No profit will be generated in the process, there is so little material like this, it may even be the only video material on the web that breaks down and explains in detail the Type 64 microsound submachine gun.

You can see the big flaw of this gun right? It has no heatshield or forward grip, just the (super hot after a few shots) suppressor to hold onto in the front. So if you want to hold it in two hands and not burn your hands i guess you have to hold the magazine or something like that.

Nice Video!!This is the first time that I've ever seen a Type 64 being stripped down. I wonder how U.S. Army get their hand on these as early as 1971... Consider youtube is a major censored site in PRC, can I translate this video and then reupload it to a Chinese video site called Acfun? Wouldn't monetise it. This kind of disassembly videos are pretty rare under the heavy gun control.

My guess would be Cambodia. The "neutral" but communist-leaning Kingdom of Cambodia bought a ton of weapons from the PRC including Type 64 SMGs before they were overthrown by a pro-US coup in 1970 and became the Khmer Republic. The Khmer National Armed Forces inherited and continued to use most of the Royal Khmer Armed Forces' weapons and equipment, including Type 64 SMGs. Considering by 1971 the US was providing them with tons of weapons I think the US would be in a position to request a few Type 64 SMGs for testing.

Think i saw an image of this years back but i never found any info on it, until now. Also you barely have to change this thing to make it a star wars blaster prop.

It's amazing how much it resembles a VSS Vintorez. I really wonder if the Russians copied it.

some sources indicate that Type 64 has fluted chamber, use of which is questionable in a blow-back gun with high rate of fire, maybe these flutes where with different purpose to actually increase the friction between case and chamber to slow down the extraction as it was made in Russian PMM which used more powerful load and thus is more logical to use in Type 64 too which had very high rate of fire? the photo of Type 64 chamber would answer that question.

A US special forces veteran friend of mine carried this in Cambodia in the early 1970s.

​@@jagdpanther2224Although it's quite plausible they could have considering the North Vietnamese/VC used both Type 64 and 67 suppressed pistols there's no evidence of them using the Type 64 SMG besides its presence in a few museums which is hardly definitive considering Vietnam invaded and controlled Cambodia from 1978-1989 and the unfortunately lax provenance of many Vietnamese museums. But there is film of a whole platoon of Khmer National Armed Forces armed with the Type 64 SMG which they almost certainly inherited from the former Royal Khmer Armed Forces which prior to the 1970 coup had purchased a lot of weapons from China. Considering he was in Cambodia that seems like the most direct route, especially if it is who I think it is (Kenneth Bowra) who served as an advisor to the FANK.

Now this is an interesting piece. (Mainland) Chinese arms development is somehow behind a shade and not very present and well known.
