Maria, you did a good job by using Chopsticks to stir the mixture. I never think of using milk in 饅頭 !! Will let my sister-in-law to learn this too as she often makes 饅頭 for breakfast. I saw a video taught us to put the steamer on top of a pot of water and bring to boil, once boils, lower to heat so that it will rise better from cold to hot.

My 6 yo daughter just helped me make it and it is delicious and fun! We used regular all purpose flour and butter. The only thing is some of the buns top seem to have wet spot after steaming. I'm thinking may be the heat is too strong. We may add a bit more sugar to suit our taste. Thanks so much for the nice video to keep the cooking tradition going.

My questions for this video are: 1) I couldn't find coconut fat in San Francisco, therefore, i am thinking to replace it with 2 tsp of organic vegetable shortening. Is that ok? 2) I am lactose intolerance. Can I use lactose free milk or soy milk? Thanks!

Hi Maria, I enjoyed learning how to make mantou from your video. It was very well made and informative. You are a great cook and teacher. I used butter instead of coconut oil and the mantous were pale yellow as you said, however, they were chewy and quite wrinkle after they came out of the steamer. They were not smooth and puffy as yours? Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks very much for all these wonderful videos! It helped me a lot! I followed the mantou recipe yesterday. It turns out good except the dough didn't rise enough (possibly due to the cold kitchen I was working). Could I follow the dough making method and recipe in flower rolls for making mantou? Then, I could rise them in pre-heated oven. You advice are much appreciated.

Hi, you are welcome. Thank you for trying my recipe and your feedback. The flower rolls and mantou are different ingredients. The texture are different too. wantanmien Excellent! Thanks very much for your explanation and prompt advice! So, I'd just modify the rise of mantou in oven.
