Chinese Solvent Trap - will it make a good Airgun Silencer?

Спорт

You may have seen these "fuel filters / solvent traps" advertised on Instagram, KZread, or Facebook...... is that their actual intended purpose? I'm not so sure............ so let's see if they'll make a good airgun silencer!

Purchased one of these recently after watching your video, followed your instructions and all I can say is Wow, fitted it to My A.A S 200 which had a sound like a .22 rim fire without a silencer, now all you can hear is the click of the action as the hammer strike the pressure valve, I really couldn't believe the difference. Thank you very much for this video.

Thanks for the comment, I know what you mean, I have the hair curler mod in the original shroud of my Artemis P15 and that is quieter than with the standard baffles. Great thing about these cheap silencers is that you can experiment with different internal to fine tune them...... if you're into that sort of thing ☺️

I have plenty of those solvent traps even some that are more sophisticated , you'll find out. I also made experiences and got even better results with long ones, replacing a pair of baffles by synthetic hard foam. a bit inspired by the way Hatsan realised its Quiet Edition with integrated silencers. Results are so good that you wonder how you could make the hammer of your gun any quieter. That's right the paint job isn't the best but you also can find the same raw alloy version and find a good paint to make it your way.

I did try to record the sound but it didn't come across well on the phone speaker. I will be doing an episode 2 with another "fuel filter" I've ordered which is a wider diameter, larger internal volume, so in theory will be quieter. I'll see if I can get some better sound recording equipment to pic up the differences.

I’m not gonna say who charges what, but I own a couple of air rifles and although they’re quiet, I wanted then quieter. So I start the search and with the adapter for each gun + 2 moderators for the rifles I was looking at over $600.00 depending on the company. Bought two of these and even with the adapters I was at about $120. Damn near mouse fart quiet. EXCELLENT for air rifles.

Hey, none of the ones with the usual baffle configuration come with a 1/2 inch UNF thread as standard, you have to purchase one with a 5/8-24 thread and then choose the 1/2-20 thread adapter. If you follow this link (if it works) it'll take you to the one in this video, you can then choose the 4th option along which adds the correct adapter. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001869888468.html

3dB is double the power, 6dB is double the amplitude and 10dB is /about/ double the perceived loudness. The latter is not linear because human hearing is not linear - the louder noise is the more dB we need to perceive the next level as twice as loud. For comparison a rock band plays at about 95dB to 120dB, probably dropping to below 85dB and maybe hitting 135dB which is painful.

Hi, I've only ever tried two types of design myself, baffles or cones, like in the video, and one I refer to as the "hair curler" mod, where all the baffles are removed and replaced by a tube of low density foam. I find the baffles are quieter, but the foam can be made to fit any length of silencer or shroud if you're not happy with how effective it is, or even if you want to change the tone of the sound coming from the silencer or shroud.

Easy, peasy, no adapter needed. However, it was in my possession for a day before I could get to it. Fortunately the LEO is my next door neighbor and could run interference for me if needed.
