Chinese Quad Bike Worn Out Bearings / Back Axle Replacement

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My 200cc Honda clone motor bike has been making a clunking noise for a while. I suspected it was the chain and sprocket but the problem turned out to be a shot bearing in the back axle. I show how it comes apart and how to replace the axle assembly with an eBay "special"
Same procedure to replace the bake disk
Same procedure to replace the rear chain sprocket.
If I had of know that was all that was wrong I could have just replaced the bearing.

Machining decent bearing seats in the carrier and matching spacer will increase bearing life. Chinese bearings aren't great but the spacers are also very soft and often not even square on the ends.

I sometimes ride through knee high grass and I think that is what killed the bearings. Dried grass was stuck inside the bearing. If it happens again I’ll look into your suggestion . I have been thinking about making a little trailer out of the old axel. I already have a couple of spare wheels I could use..

@@DavoShed Actually this part is not shown in the video because you are fixing the rear axle and the one I want to know the name is in the front. I think it is the part that pulls the wheel wen you turn the handle bar.

There are these things that I’d probably call Tie Rod Ends www.ebay.com.au/itm/255710713861?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=SClkXB0NQ8m&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I just did a search in eBay with this “Chinese Quad Bike steering rubber” and got a stack of hits. Maybe you can spot what you are looking for. It’s hard to pick the right model parts for your ATV so read all the description and ask the seller questions if your not sure. I’ll have a look at my bike tomorrow and see what rubber steering bits I can find. 🤠

Hi There, I found it on eBay. It’s a bit of a gamble with the Chinese bikes if you will get the right one. Check as many measurements as you can from their description. As you can see in my video the one I bought had a shock absorber mount I didn’t need but it didn’t get in the way. I could have got away with only changing the bearings but it was cheap enough anyway and I had fun :) www.ebay.com.au/itm/284043828432 Good luck!

I didn’t look too close at the extra bracket as mine is on the swing arm not the bearing housing. But I think they are the same size. Interesting when I now look at the link I sent you the suspension bracket is not pictured. I’d ask the seller if they have one with the bracket if that is what you need. Is your old axle bent or otherwise completely stuffed? If it’s just the bearings that are worn out you can get the numbers off the side of the bearing and find exact replacements. I think I mention those bearing numbers in my video. I have been meaning to fix my old axel and build it into a quad bike trailer. That might make an interesting video 🤠

I added a comment with an eBay link a couple of weeks ago. Not many comments here so it should be easy to find. Once I had mine apart I realised I could have simply replaced the bearings. I was going for minimum down time but it didn’t really help much buying the whole assembly. I think I show the bearing part number in the video. If you do buy the whole thing pay attention to how the rear shock absorber mounts. My bike has it on the swing arm but the replacement axel also had a mount on it. Didn’t matter in my case but you could wind up with no mount where I wound up with two. Good luck. Let me know how you go if you want 🤠

I think it’s a load thing. When the chain is under tension the axel was pulled forward slightly in the LH loose bearing, misaligning the rear and front sprocket causing the chain to jump up on the teeth. If I ever went fast (3rd gear) the chain would frequently fall off. I think the balls inside the bearing were so loose they used to crunch together. It’s running much better now. I think I’ll rebuild the old axel. I have already purchased the bearings and seals. I have a couple of spare wheels to go with it. It’s starting to look a lot like a box trailer in a strange kind of way 🤠

@@DavoShed I stand corrected.....my kfs 90a is different, better design. I have a china axel like yours next to it. I mixed up the axels. At a glance they look alike, but pull the kawasaki wheel n hub off,a tube slides off.....then the whole sprocket and splined hub comes off. My china is like yours. My kfs 90 did however have a honda gy6 or gy6 clone engine and transmission. So did my china 150 atv that my axel came from.
