This is a very old j10.(J10a) .. The current j10's (j10c) have more powerful ws10 domestic engines, AESA radar and use Pl15 BVR missiles among many other critical upgrades. J10c is a very cool plane.

8:25 actually gave me a jump-scare. Haven’t been jump-scared on this channel since the Raptor formed up on you back in December.

Me: See's that Longshot and GS upload at pretty much the same time. My brain: It Was A Good Day begins to play in my head.

This is exactly the stuff I like to see on your channel. BVR is how almost all future air combat will be fought, and the fact that most of the DCS content focuses on WVR dogfighting gives many people false impressions. I would love to see more of similar scenarios to this, especially with mixed 5th and 4th gen teams like we'll most likely be seeing in future air combat.

I'm admittedly no expert on this, but I imagine BVR is how specifically American aircraft prefer operate in ideal conditions. I don't think that necessarily applies to all airforces in the world, nor does it apply under all circumstances. Imagine for example fighting over mountainous terrain, fighting in heavily-contested air space or fighting under EMCON.

GS: my wingman is probably useless. Longshot: then my wingmen are definitely useless LOLOL

J-10 is capable enough and numerous enough to be a serious threat. They are the new par adversary.

@@sponky8614 Uhhh what? IAI Lavi is an Israeli plane... I don't know what it has to do with this Chinese jet... But if you mean it has similarities in design, then yes, you're correct... IAI Lavi has design similarities with J-10, but the thing is, IAI Lavi didn't pass the testing stage and never entered production, while the J-10 was mass produced by the Chinese...

But I just wanna point out that although the IAI Lavi has some similarities or components found on the F-16, it isn’t really an “Israeli-deriative of the F-16”, because its an indigenous homegrown aircraft, designed by Israeli engineers using Israeli technology, with the exception of some hard-to-develop components like the engine, which was sourced from the US...

It’s scary how quiet and soothing it can be flying at high altitude. You can easily get caught off guard and be blasted by a missile without warning.

The J-10C is not to be underestimated, and these were J-10As. They’ve smoke-checked RTAF Gripen Cs already for sport in BVR and WVR exercises between PLAAF and RTAF. J-10C with the DSI inlet, big AESA, and PL-12s or PL-15s is no joke.

damn, this is just so beautiful man

Superb footage as always GS. Loved the camera flying into the air intake on the runway. I ONLY play against AI (bad anxiety problem around humans) and I've noticed the AI's behavior is a bit weird with commands. If you say "Engage Bandits" they will check their Radar and if they don't see anything they don't respond. What I find works better is to lock up a single-target and say "Attack my Target" and then switch to another target right after. AI wingman can be anywhere on the map and somehow he will know who to engage. Cheers!

It makes me think that's what wingman drones will be good for. He got 2 hits but got splashed cause he was still at altitude taking shots. Maybe we'll do the same one day sacrificing drones to take the risky shots.

@@KC_Smooth Might be even sooner for specific combat task. Teaching AI to be aware of everything and make all decisions might be hard. But what if we have pilots/controllers make the decisions and have the AI execute them? AI have far more precision and endurance than any pilot, and early AI stupidity and predictability can be offset by human decisions. The horror of AI going stupid though...

The J-10 looks like there was the use of illegally obtained foreign technology. In other words China has stolen technical secrets to advance their criminal expansion in the SCS. However, the Philippines have sent a strong message to the Communist Party goons in Beijing. WE WILL NO LONGER TOLERATE YOUR BULLYING IN THE SCS!

They would simply outclass these F-15s by launching their longer range PL-15 missiles so wouldn't be fun to watch that one sided contest. 4 J-10C carrying standard 4 PL-15 missiles load and 2 PL-10 each. It would make a total of 16 PL-15 missiles to hunt down just 2 F-15s 🤔😳

hey can u maybe put some kind of notification or like a small symbol on screen to let us know when ur flaring and using countermeasures? I can see and follow along when you do manouvres but dont know when your flaring, this could really help.

The newly upgraded version of J-10C (J-10CE specifically designed for the Pakistan Air Force to counter the Indian Air Force Rafale) is a more deadly thing. It has multiple upgraded features like lower weight, new China-built engine (WS-10B), IIR and missiles specifically designed for it.

You cant even find enough data to make a J10A sim. B and C are highly classified, especially J10C, since it likely has many technology also used on J20, like AESA radar, and PL15 missiles. Both are way too OP in DCS anyway.

That is correct. The Aim-120D doesnt exist in DCS world. Only the Aim-120B/C and soon the A version.

Can't wait for GS to fly some red planes. Things will be way more interesting

They wont do that any time soon. DCS is a hardcore flight simulator and if someone want to do a F-15EX for that sim, he needs access to the real world manuals which are, for the f15ex, all classified. But there is a F-15E currently in development for dcs.

The Chengdu F-10 is my favorite aircraft. It was the fighter that made its debut flight the year I was born.

I've been waiting so long to see the J-10 in DCS, so when I saw you posted this I literally stopped working on my essay due tomorrow to watch! I don't what it is about the J-10 that has me so interested? Shall we talk about the IAI Lavi RandD data from the mid 80's that "magically" turned up in China Wonder why the damned thing looks "just like" the IAI lavi prototypes? Maybe because someone sold them the design, and they updated and put it in production...eh? The only thing "original" about the J10 is... it's not a copy of a Russian design this time. It's roots are Israeli.

@@stinkyfungus Interestingly, the J-10 is quite different to the Lavi. I'm not saying that it wasn't based on it. It may very well have been, but the end result is very different, with very different aerodynamic properties. For example, the book "Lavi: The United States, Israel, and a Controversial Fighter Jet" by John Golan, lists the relative sizing and positioning of canards of the Lavi and many other delta-canards, including the J-10, and calculates the aerodynamic interaction between wing and canard. The Lavi's close-coupled canard was designed to have strong interaction with the wing to reduce it's induced drag, and the book shows a 34% increase in its Oswald efficiency (meaning a 25% reduction in induced drag). For the J-10 this is 13% increase in O.E. (11.5% reduction in induced drag).
