Chinese Electronic Groupset 6 months later - L-TWOO eRX
Спорт
There were definitely some teething issues with this eRX groupset from L-TWOO when first released, but how is performing 6 months down the line?
AliExpress store where I bought my eRX groupset:
s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DnM...
The eRX from L-TWOO was the first electronic road bike groupset to come from a Chinese manufacturer. At around £600, it comes in WAY cheaper than competitor offerings from the likes of Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo, but the first few units had some issues.
The battery holders caused groupsets to fail suddenly, there were allegedly some waterproofing issues, and on my groupset the front derailleur died suddenly for no reason. However since highlighting these early issues, L-TWOO have been working on improvements, and since getting some replacement parts, my eRX groupset has been working flawlessly for the last 2000km.
The ergonomics are great, the braking is absolutely fantastic, the shifting is quick and reliable, and the battery life is very impressive.
To start with, I was very hesitant to recommend this groupset. The issues were unpredictable, there were random differences between groupsets, and ultimately £600 is a lot of money to spend on a groupset that may fail mid-ride. But with the work L-TWOO have put into improving their product over the last year, I feel it is at a point where it has become a viable option for new bike builds.
Big thanks to @ChinaCycling and @GCPerformance18

Just this morning I was re-watching your old eRX video and wondering how it was going, glad to hear it's gone so well!
Just in here 12 seconds into watching the video to tell you the mustache absolutely slaps. Keep it going!
I’ve got a groupset sitting in the box in my spare room ready to go on my new build once the frame (OG Evkin CF-025) and wheels arrive. I've just taken delivery on mine, have about ~70 miles on it, and have had no issues whatsoever. the ability to fine tune each sprocket is pretty awesome. One thing I haven't found or noticed is the ability to save profiles for say, different wheelsets and freewheel setups. If it is in the app, I didn't come across it. Otherwise, solid groupset, and nice to have a 3rd alternative out there for wireless shifting. Thanks for you honest reviews, between you and Joe, I was able to feel good enough to pull the trigger! 🥖🥖🥖🥖

3 months using the eRX groupset in all weathers. Working faultlessly. I'm really impressed. My only niggle is, with thick gloves I sometimes inadvertently change gear :-)
2,000KM on my LTWOO ER9 ( the brother down to the ERX) and it’s been amazing to me. Only minor issue I had was that my shifter button would stick and always go to my easiest gear on the rear derailleur but that has seen been fixed (not sure how, perhaps software update). Shifting is so smooth, app is great. It’s only going to get better from here. Has not experienced any problems in Vancouver winter(rain heavy weather). I’ve charged the groupset twice. Currently debating putting this on my race bike to replace Ultegra r8020. My advise to make this group set great - use a shimano chain (sram flat top sticks to the rear derailleur pulleys) - use their shifting set up and individually tune each gear
Such a good Video!!! great sum up!!
I've installed 5 er9 and ridden 2. They're all wonderful. EDIT: 2 of them died last week for no reason. I do NOT recommend LTWOO. the warranty process to get replacement is also very frustrating.

Got my eRX delivered in november 2023 and finished the build early 2024. Put out about 1200km since then and had no issues at all. Everything was working so well, I even completely forgot to charge it after the first 100% and the battery died on a ride after about 650km with lots of climbing and therefore a decent amount of shifts. Because of the issues by Joe, Grant and yourself I was at first not very happy with my decision to place the order. Now I would for sure recommend the groupset without hesitation.

same story as you on my end. it's been pretty flawless for the last few months after I swapped out the rear derailleur. looking forward to getting my hands on the newer version.
I just installed the ER9 groupset this week. Performance has been amazing for the $350 USD sale price I paid for the groupset. I had some issues with the battery cabling, but that has more to do with the frameset I was using. Also it seems LTwoo has ironed out many of the early problems. I also used the opportunity to swap over to a 12 speed cassette, because why not? This has to be the most user friendly electronic groupset on the market. Easy to service mineral oil hydraulic braking, user replaceable batteries, cassette speed flexibility and the ability to fine tune the gearing are all phenomenal. Keep up the good work as well! 🥖🥖🥖

Where did you get it for that price?
I’ve put about the same distance into my eRX set. Apart from an early failure of the rear derailleur which was replaced free of charge it has been working flawlessly. Interestingly I have recently had the same issue with the up shifting. It seems to shift 3 gears with one touch on the shifter. I’ll have to have a look at the springs you mentioned. It’s actually been behaving though so don’t know why it happened. Either way I love it. Smooth, quick and the braking feels very solid. I live the feel of the grips too. They are slimmer than the shimano Ultegra so feel slicker. Enjoy the pasta! 🥖🍝
First of all thank you very much for your review. It's very useful. It helped me understanding that's not a real point buying this group-set over the Sram Apex AXS that comes fully equipped with cranks as well. The price difference doesn't really compensate the risk of having a problematic unit. That's the main issue here. I still have the feeling that quality assurance with these products is a big question mark and a kind of a lottery.
Looking forward to seeing the Blue Edition improvements 🥖
Thanks for the update, interested to see how the new grp works out.
Luke, I really enjoy the content. Because of you I upgraded my old road bike for my son with sensah 11spd which works great. When do you think we'll start seeing L-TWOO sponsor a pro team. I really thing that's the next step to get the brand really out there and noticed. If the shifting is as good as you say it's only a matter of time. (btw, glad to hear you made it out ok after your crash)
Absolutely love my er9!
I’ve had my share of issues with SRAM FORCE AXS, so…. Nobodies perfect. L-TWOO seems to have figured it out, all for it.
Just installed my egr groupset today. I was very impressed with the quality easily on par with Force or Ultegra. Only worry I have is the exposed charger, much prefer di2 charging ports.
Good news for those of us that took the plunge and bought it. In my opinion the redesigned front mech motor cover is a great improvement over the original. The rest is primarily cosmetic.
IF they made a cable brake version, I would buy 2 sets right now! But Wheeltop does make a cable brake version and if they make it available in states, I'll get it. Glad you are ok from your fall. Love your channel!

Done 3000km on mine. Friend of mine did 6000km. Replaced a chain at 5000ish. No complaints. Works as it should. We did get an experienced mechanic to fine tune it for us. Wasn't as smooth before he tuned it. He'd never used the app or seen the groupset. He spent 10min or so playing around with it and said it was easier than any other app.

Good video man. Rim brakes and mechanical shifting on my road bike till I die. I keep everything clean, lubed and fine tuned myself, so everything works flawlessly. Very few things that can go wrong on mechanical if properly maintained. Lots more stuff that can go wrong on electronic shifting. Even a simple battery contact will stop everything from working. Good to hear the issues have been mostly ironed out, but I'm still personally glad I went with 105 Di2 when I upgraded to electronic shifting late last year. The price difference between eRX and 105 Di2 here in China wasn't big enough to make me take the gamble of going with the still not totally proven Chinese competition.
Ciao Luke!!! I'm really impressed seeing your third-person action video. Why not making a video about that? In particular about on how to mount the camera on the bike and what to use to do so (I tried with insta360 one r, with very bad results), so it would be interesting to know some advices from you!! Bye!
I want it so bad! I'll wait probably another year for the kinks to be ironed out and availabilty to improve but I'm getting it for sure! Never thought I'd be able to afford electronic shifting so soon. Even 105 Di2 costs an arm and a leg where I live. Thank you China!

Hi Luke, my erx was working faultlessly for about 3 months which with the amount of riding i do is about 1000ish miles, then after a recharge of the batteries the shifters no longer worked. I could shift gears using the app but the shifters weren't playing. I changed the coin style batteries in the shifter and tried to bind the shifters to the derailleurs. But no joy. Like you i replaced the rear derailleur with one i had on another bike i have just built and immediately everything started working as it should do. So there is definitely a problem with the rear derailleur. I am now in communication with Ltwoo to try and get this sorted and hopefully get a replacement rear derailleur under warranty.

Early adopter of erx here. At first the groupset charging light didn't flash. Battery ran low very quickly, i had to send my battery pod (expensive :/, but let's call it ocassional chinesium tax) they told me they would refund me the shipping costs, but it hasn't happened since the say they can't give me money, i guess i could ask for some brake pads, not ideal but i would eventually need them anyways. At the end it was the RD causing the problem. They sent me a replacement RD (half of the cage was aluminum lol) i swapped for the original carbon cage mainly because black paint/anodizing? falls very easily. Everything smooth since then. My only complaint is that trimming is not always perfect while in the middle of the cassette, sometimes i have to trick the groupset to use the next cog trim setting for the front derrailleur by up-shifting -> trim -> down-shifting again, maybe i am not adjusting my groupset right.
Luke is Our wallet hero and save the day❤

Hey Luke, been watching your coverage and one thing I’ve always wondered is how you set up/bleed the hydraulic brakes on these groups (ltwoo and wheel top). Are shimano or sram bleed kits compatible?
This is the content I’m here for. Gotta say though, with the price of 105 di2 dropping a tonne in the last year, L-Twoo probably needs to do something to differentiate this product from di2.
Bought erx last night, sent back to seller after the FD dead this morning 😅

Hi thank you for this video. Is this group available for disc only, or Vbrake too?
As a geek this appeals but as a practical rider I prefer the inherent simplicity of a conventional cable operated derailleur. Modern shifters are so good now, I struglle to comprehend the problem a costly amd less serviceable electronic shifter brings. Auto trim is cool I guess and elimjnates the need for understanding trimming?
Oh to be a 3d rendered cheetah from a chinese bike component manufacturer on the Serengeti. I could only dream.
eRX looks great but is actually cheaper than Di2 105 if you have to add on the cost of the chainset?

Friend, do you knnow how can i check the status or level of the battery CR2032 of the shiftters?
Can you spray water from different angles : from the front, from rear, from bottom, top, from the left whilst cranking and shifting on both derailleurs? I think this will determine the water-proof-ability once and for all.
Are you going to do more fall falling over damage test results? 🙃
I hope you can release a video of the blue edition...
i have just finish my bike nd i mounted a ER9, it was the cheaper solution, and all the process went smooth. the most complicated part has been (or maybe "is") the fine tune of the front derailleur. i really don't know if the issue is related to my setup but it is complicated.
Is It possibile to index the gear without the need of a companion app? Somehting like the adjustments that can be made on a Di2 only by clicking on the levers?
Hi Luke! Could this be used without the front derailleur, as a 1x system? (ignoring of course there is no clutch mechanism).
Hi Luke, what about the batteries in the wireless shifters? Is there any low battery warning or what?
Hope everything is well any future updates on the egr gravel version cheers take care🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖

I installed the product about 6 months ago and traveled 2000km. I'm not satisfied at all: I've got a SRAM 12s 10-28 cassette and a Racework 170mm 50-34 at the front. The front derailleur has a lot of difficulty going from small to large, I tried to adjust the limits from the application but if you exceed it the chain falls. The rear derailleur is not that bad but you have to spend a lot of time making micro adjustments on the gears as it is very imprecise. I wanted to try it after watching several videos but my advice is to spend a little more by purchasing a SRAM or Shimano so you can be sure of perfect functioning. Customer service is almost non-existent, they respond with messages from a bot and after a long time.
