What do you think about Chinese Dao that don't have the willow-leaf / oxtail shape and instead look like a saber?

Dear Mr Wu, I am not a historical weapons expert so I don't really have an answer for you. It seems what you are describing sounds like the Yang family type saber which if I'm not mistaken is a mix of western and Chinese deigns but I am not knowledgeable in this field. I use a chinese broadsword and sell them but do not study their history and evolution. Ill leave that to others.....But in the end a sword was made for cutting so as long as it does its job well its all good!

This is a really late reply, but there's many Chinese Daos that can look a lot like sabers. Yang-style Dao is one, and there's also Yanling Daos. Willow-leaf Daos also actually look like sabers, by the way. Yanling Dao and Willow-leaf Daos can look very similar. In terms of cutting capacity and how it feels, the above 3 are very much alike. (their blades don't really flex that much at all - very similar to Katana blades.). From general information, Yang-style Dao originated sometime during the late Qing - early Republican era, by simply combining a S-style guard with a Willow-leaf style blade. The S-style guard is native to China, but the fittings can resemble those of European sabers. What I gather is that Yang-style Daos handle very similarly to Katanas; quite a few Yang-style practitioners seem to train with bokkens/Katanas in their training.

Hi Sorry i cannot. Making sound has to do with speed and velocity adnthe wielder of the sword. If its a heavy weapon then you need more power to increase speed and velocity....

The singing is not proportional to quality. It is a bonus for certain enjoyment. Usually more sounds with wushu thin blades.
