Justin Love We need to bring back men’s clubs. Not sure if you are just trying to be an ass hole... but yes, there’s many reasons for people feeling this way. Materialism and loss of community is leading to many problems. A lot of women are also very unhappy.. Our society has lost touch with what makes both men & women whole.. People need meaning in life. A lot of people I grew up with had no idea what they wanted to do for a living.. And I’m sure many of them still don’t. It becomes a very dark place to be in. The cost of living where I live is outrageously high.. It a small fortune just to eat and stay clothed. Housing and bills are the where most struggle.. Especially being single with only one income. You don’t get the “OK Boomer” without having the “Lost Generation”..

I saw a few coachloads of Chinese boomers turning up at a beach in Australia. They would literally get off, take pictures with no consideration for the other people on the beach, then get back on the coach. They would turn up for about 10 minutes then leave and another bus load would arrive. One of the guys with us was a young Chinese dude, who sort of explained how they didn't really care about visiting the place. They just wanted the pictures too show off back home. Its a bit surreal. Story time: for 4 years I delivered pizzas in a small rural town here in Australia. There are a few shops in town owned by Chinese families, the usual, the noodle shop, the Chinese food shop, a convenience store on the side of the highway etc... anyway, one night I'm delivering and this old Chinese lady answers the door and ushers me in. Inside are these 6 or so Chinese men in their 60s or so, sitting around gambling and smoking. I ask where I should put their pizza and asked who is paying. They all started arguing for like 5 minutes and each kept shoving money in my hand, and the next guy would snatch it out and pay himself and around and around it went. Eventually I was just like "guys, I got more deliveries to do so how about you all split the bill evenly?" And that... didn't help matters. Anyway in the end the host's wife handed me the money and that was that.

I think thats a pretty naive way to see the whole situation. Every generation and time comes with its own challenges. Fitting into a society and finding a place in the natural hierarchy of society will always be one of those challenges, in which way ever. this lead to such behaviors. For us as an outside spectator it might seem silly, but to them it makes very much sense. Makes me feel kind of sad. I am sure we can debate ease of living, but the biggest thing many of us deal with is how we were raised. Our parents, the silent generation, were not as kind and loving as I think we were as parents...left many of us with emotional scars we deal with to this day. Every generation has something.

I think every generation is deeply flawed. You may ask why you think boomers are flawed. We couldn't have gotten that way by ourselves! Every generation is influenced by the one that came before us. We were all shaped as children by our parents, grandparents, teachers, etc. We are all a product of our time and circumstance. Your generation is no different than mine in that sense. Most of my friends and those who went with school and college with me had parents with better jobs, and more affluence. I managed to get an education and get a job but now I'm helping provide for my parents and not the other way around. This is something that happens a lot in China and other second world countries but growing in a Western country I did not expect it was my case too, since most of my contemporaries have parents with means. One of the reason I'm not having kids of my own is because I can't afford another mortgage (this is the cost of growing a child, up until 20yrs) on top of the one I have for my house since I cannot live with and provide for my parents. When I started working the economy went through crisis after crisis and opportunities were scarce, I'm not saying Boomers had it better but they surely had more chances and possibilities.

I suspect a lot of the issues that society has is based on suppressed shame from, deep within, knowing how much shit Mao did. Eventually that mentality gets inherited, but that's a symptom of the 'original sin', and the longer they build on the perverted view that the Cultural Revolution was good, the more painful it will become to free the People from it. I suspect that, just like the USA, China will have to find the light through deepest darkness now. Too late for an internal turnaround. China and USA are entwined by a mutual nemesis-like relationship. China quite literally bought into the USA's karma, quite like its vassal countries, and again the CCP is in denial there, because they know so well they wanted that quick power.

For example in my country Hungary some teenagers think if they got something from Zara they will be cool and shiet. Or some guys in their twenties think they are the king of the streets after they bought an old 3 series BMW from the 80s. I've met a few Romanians as well and many of them can be incredibly materialistic. Many of them save up large amounts of money by working abroad then build houses at home that are also very show offy looking with castle like qualities and vibrant colours.

Still seeing the way of bargaining is quite shocking, some items in the shop that I didn't know that the price is possible like 70-90% off the price, and she cut the deals off just like that.

Urso sigh, first of all, I am chinese but I was brought up in Macau, secondly, China allows use of vpn, not sales of vpn( this basically means if you can acquire vpn else where you can legally browse the internet ), and thirdly, even though I grew up in Macau which has free internet I’m still inclined to help China because the “free media” is not portraying China correctly, media’s have their own agenda, I hope you’re not “brainwashed” like they say we are. Cause we know our news are one sided, however just because you have access to global media outlets doesn’t mean you’re reading them, most people read British, and American outlets, if you check Russian and Middle Eastern outlets you will see different perspectives of things happening in China. Free net =\= political knowledge, most people don’t even use their so called internet freedom, they just browse the web and read whatever the English speaking media decides to feed them.

  • @inso5078

@@forlornpreponderance2299 First of all I am not an American nor British, English is not even my first language. I understand that you are upset about people saying only bad things about China, but just as you may have a different perspective of looking at things, so can others. I kind of get your explanation of the Great internet wall of China and it's official purpose, but regardless of what you think about your government - it is not right to ban access to any information, even fake information. It should be up to you what you think is true and what is not and you should never be punished for having your own opinion or saying it loud (about government actions for e.g.). Government should never decide for you. At least that is what I think about freedom. I am from a country that has seen many wars and occupants trying to force their point on us, trying to keep those who protest against them silent. No occupant has ever succeed long term. So I think I know a thing or two about freedom and something that is not freedom - communism. You said that there are things that stupid people should not see. But aren't all the crimes against humanity commited during the Cultural Revolution by the communist party of China something that even "the stupid" should see? Isn't the truth about the protests at Tiananmen something that everyone should see? There are countless examples of horrific things the the Chinese government has done and tries to hide it from the general public. I am really fascinated about China and how much you have achieved and no-one is really talking just about the bad things, it's you that somehow focus solely on the bad things, as if China had no problems at all. What I wanted to say is that I just think that your government has too much control over all of you. But if that is fine for you, no-one should really care.

From what I can tell, the generation gap between the X's and Y's is also quite big too, especially in terms of upbringing, and the children of Generation X live in a totally different world to their parents. The rapid growth of the Chinese economy over the last few decades has caused these 'gaps' to appear between the generations that are much wider than they are in the west.

It's funny how much weird old stuff even our boomer generation had. Wearing Sunday best clothes for church and only church to pretend to be well off even if poor (poor people rented suits just for church!), buying China crockery to display and never use to show off wealth in your home, uncomfortable suit and tie work clothing to be "professional" at all times even forced on children (leisurewear only acceptable during sporting activities), having an overly large house with garden, full of rooms you never use and stuff you don't need to show off to visitors, it really is quite extravagant when you think about how boomers splash their cash to show face. I would say Millennials and Zoomers have our own dumb behaviours as well, such as mindless virtue signalling to project we are "good" and "correct", outrageous tattoos and coloured hair to demand attention, hating on traditional business whilst handing over our wallets and private data to faceless online megacorperations, eaten at most fast food places and get excited about new menu items but don't even know how to boil an egg at home. I think the generations have a lot to learn from each other if they stopped putting up walls to divide us and started being more down to earth with each other.
