  • @ellad4846

    I’m not trying to offend you or anything, but I highly recommend taking out the hay ball and the wheel that you are using. That wheel is made out of plastic, and plastic is toxic to chinchillas. Also, chinchillas need very specific wheels made specifically for chinchillas. The reason why you shouldn’t have a hay ball ( the wire sphere that you store your hay inside) is because chinchillas can get their feet stuck inside of them and break their bones. I can tell that you care about your chinchillas, so you should switch your cage accessories :)

  • @paolamarie8909

    @paolamarie8909

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@clairelim9920 they are considered toxic because, like you said, they are high in sugar. Since chinchillas don’t normally have raisins or other food high in sugar in their diet, excess consumption of these foods can put them at risk for diabetes and other diseases.

I adopted/bought a chinchilla from my job like 2 weeks ago and I was recommended the Full Cheeks Foraging diet pellets which have seeds, veggies & fruits but it’s all no sugar. I’m debating if I should switch to the oxbow pellets bc when I searched it up on google, it said they shouldn’t eat seeds, veggies and fruits.

    Hi great video and advice. One thing though, the water bottle has linked to dehydration in most pet rodents, just wandering if that is true with chins.

    Chinchillas need water bottles, bowls can allow a chinchilla to get wet which is extremely unsafe:)

    Chinchillas can live up to ten years in the wild and up to 20 in captivity also another reason why the can’t get wet is because they get terrible fungus on their skin , 😃

    They are most likely used as bedding but they are not safe. The best options for bedding is pine shavings or anti pill fleece, so they cant injest it:)

    hi! I know this is an old video, but I have a question since you mentioned sugar is hard on their tummies. I‘ve had a chinchilla for almost 2 years now and feed him freeze dried strawberries- I bought these from the pet store, but sometimes I get a little carried away because he loves them sooo much (I know, they love anything lol) but would you say those probably aren’t great for him at all? or in moderation, like once a week?

  • @dexterletterman3800

    @dexterletterman3800

    I wouldn’t ever give them to him. Maybe once a year, but using something like goji berries or rosehips are much better.

    Chinchillas are a semi-desert species. So they are not designed to handle sugar or oils well. They cannot eat any fresh or dried fruits or vegetables or like seeds or nuts. When they consume things like this, it created gas in their stomach; however, unlike cats or dogs, they cannot release the gas build-up. This is called GI Stasis and can be fatal in chinchillas. Here are a few safe treat options: one plain cheerio per day, dried rose petals, rose hips, plain shredded wheat in moderation, etc. They make a lot of safe treat bundles on Etsy! Just check out Pandamonium Pets!

    Plastic can really harm if not kill your chins that includes plastic shelves if not covered with anti-pill fleece. Wheels and such as hould be at least 15 in in diameter

    What types of beddings are safe for chinchillas? Or is fleece a better option?

  • @siennaaaabowles

    Fleece is way better than bedding as it’s easier to clean. Beddings you will have to clean wayy more! Plus some of the bedding flies out of the cage.
