Chinatown Fair: a documentary
Ойын-сауық
Tucked away on a narrow sidestreet in Lower Manhattan lay Chinatown Fair, one of the city's (and the country's) last independently owned video arcades. Home to a loyal group of gamers, the arcade was the pinnacle of the East Coast fighting game scene. When it suddenly closed in February 2011, the players were left to find a new home.
Combining interviews with crowdsourced footage, Chinatown Fair tells the personal story of the connections that were formed at the arcade and how they can survive after a shared space no longer exists.

Facts, Not an opinion.
I'm on this 90's shit. Arcade Scenes forever man for real sad shit its a dying scene :/
love it I practically lived here playing T5:DR back in the day
I'm so sad that I never got to go to this arcade, and I'm a native New Yorker. I would give anything to be able to go there when it was in it's prime and play the Capcom fighters I grew up loving.
Great documentary, gutted I never experienced it. U.k has nothing like this :(

UK did have a sick arcade scene in London, had troc, goodge street casino had basically all the high level players...that was also a dingy, dirty arcade but had a proper old school feel. Was packed when SF4 came out too
I left NYC against my will after 10 years, and CF will forever hold some of my fondest memories... 😭
This is great Doc. good job.

Have you been yet?
I heard about that! Great news for the gaming community!
this is dope.
Wow what a great documentary. I am from the uk and we have never had anything like this before :( all I'm into in the arcades are fiighters and there's nothing like that here really :( I play 3rd strike all the time. You guys are very lucky to of had something like this in your youth and still do have good arcades! You should think of the poor few Brits that don't have any of these luxuries because the uk arcade scene is whack here :( thanks for the documentary :))

I would always walk past Chinatown fair to go to J&L's or to dashop to buy yugioh cards.
What arcade were they all in front of with the green door?
What is the tune @ 8.15?
I used to go here with my Gf in college in the 80s.
What was the name of the guy that worked there? He would clean the joint and dispense quarters. I saw him a couple of years back picking up recyclable cans and bottles on the street.

CheetosStainedLips There should be an entire separate documentary about him. I mean, he used to ALWAYS be there, around the clock. Do you remember the really elderly Asian lady inside the pay booth? Was that his mum?

I don't know what part of the country you're from, but the channel Rerez just made a video about the arcades by Niagra Falls and the Canadian side has way better spots.

If any of the arcades in that video have 3rd strike cabinets, or just have a fighting game scene then I'm in. If they don't have those things, then nah I'm good. Either way, will check out video. @@ryanfriscia1132
