    That's a variant of the zinc-bromide redox-flow battery. They showed a variant with a cadmium anode which however is not stable. Only the variant with a vanadium anode is in their lab. As such it is in a very early stage of development - quoting Prof Li “This study provides a new idea for the design of high-energy-density aqueous batteries, and may expand the aqueous batteries application in power batteries field”.

    Watt-hours Sam. Watt-hours! Watts is like answering "How far will it go" with "45 miles per hour". Not the same. I'm starting to think you are allergic to energy units.

  • @greggrant4614

    @greggrant4614

    25 күн бұрын

    Sam's apparent aversion to the correct units for Energy (kiloWatt-hours or kWh or kW-hr) mistakenly interchanged with the correct units for Power (kiloWatts or kW) is a very common confusion, particularly as relatively few are aware of the rather straightforward relationship between Energy (E), Power (P) and Time (t). That is: P x t = E, which is algebraicly equivalent to P = E / t, by dividing both sides of the equation for Energy (E) by time (t). So, if Power (P) is given in units of Kilowatts (kW) and time (t) is given in hours (h), the units of Energy (E) = P (kW) x time (t) in hours (h) = kW x h and is most often abbreviated as kWh or kW-h or kW-hr or kW-hour or kW-hours. Hope the above helps explain Sam's (and others') apparent determination to mistakenly interchange units of Energy (kWh) and units of Power (kW).

    There is virtually no car in the world that has a good resale value after driving it for more than 400000Km and the current EV's batteries if used properly are already surpassing that threshold. At least for Canada, Northern USA and northern Europe where they use a lot of salt in the winter the value of any car goes down rapidly. The only way to slow down the depreciation is if you keep it in your garage and barely drive it. Otherwise simply ask yourself, would you buy an expensive ten year old car with 400000 Km on it? I know I wouldn't.

    Thank you for sharing Sam. Water battery is not new, when I and other engineers experimented with water battery as a solid it was nullified by the amount of power it made to stay solid as in it uses power to generate electricity to be used in a heat pump to stay solid by keeping water below zero meaning it made no power at all however as a liquid the efficiency was too low to be useful. But as a gas it was hard to keep it contained so we tried other means and discovered better efficiency using olive oil and as you know the chemical properties of olive oil when it goes rancid it starts to break down and cause other issues in short circuits.

Did they compare the number of fires per 1000 cars on the road? Did they compare vehicles of the same age - or are much older ICE cars included? How was the destructive force of those fires considered? How were fires that started whilst not being driven, or not involved in an accident, taken into account?

    In the next years AI well make chemistry development without large research teams standard until you need to build the battery. Even patents will be questionable, and open source when its no longer humans coming up with the chemistry directly. Capital paired with mineral availability will be the dominant driving force which could well standardize the locations for manufacturing. Debt driven economies may then crumble.

    What's the difference between an Australian and a Canadian or anyone else who lives in a cold climate where it actually freezes? An Australian who never sees cold temperatures will do an ENTIRE video on water based batteries for EVs and never once raise the issue of the viability of the technology in freezing temperatures. If a Canadian were presenting, that's the FIRST issue they would address in the video and if the answer is that the technology is not viable in freezing temperatures, the video would end at that point and the technology would only be regarded as relevant to the small portion of the earth that never sees freezing temperatures.
