China, Huawei already far ahead in the race to 5G and the iOT, with the US a trillion dollars behind

Ғылым және технология

The transition to 5G is an imperative for modern economies to be competitive in coming decades. Huawei, a Chinese company, dominates the end-to-end production of all the technologies required for 5G conversions, including the 5G chips that will power billions of devices at the consumer and industrial level.
The United States already faces daunting challenges to catch up. Our telecommunications companies are not incentivized to build out networks that will drive down per-user network costs. Our costs for equipment, regulatory and environmental compliance, and labor far exceed those of other countries. And ironically, we would likely need Huawei to provide much of the equipment necessary for a large-scale buildout, and Huawei is restricted from doing business in the US. Most of all, we have painfully obvious lack of visionary or capable leadership who can see us through these challenges.

Frustrating thing: US did it to ourselves! How did "kidnapping the founder of Huawei" daughter help American competitiveness ? How did holding her under house arrest in Canada for 3 years help International relations ? As an American Living in the US, I see us getting stupider every day.

The US gave up on 5G when they sanctioned Huawei "for security reasons". The real benefits of 5G is for communication between AI of different kinds, such as self-driving vehicles, robots within a factory, and such things. For us humans older communication tech suffice. But developing new things is hampered by insufficient mobile communication infrastructure. Yet another infrastructure the US manages badly! The US have never understood the benefits of using things China produces so efficiently is more profitable than it's for Ch8na manufacturing it. In May 2015, Xi Jinping, new to the helm as President of the PRC since March 2013, told visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Beijing that "The broad Pacific Ocean is vast enough to embrace both China and the United States." Also in May 2015, China announced its "Made in China 2025" initiative under its 10-year plan to upgrade China's manufacturing base to reach the status of an advanced economy. And in his state visit to the U.S.A. in June 2017, Xi once again mentioned he still believes that "the vast Pacific Ocean has enough space for the two large countries of China and the United States" in front of Barack Obama. Unfortunately, American media soon after trumped up the charge that "Made in China 2025" is a threat to global trade and everything went downward ever since. China pushed on with the initiative and purchased all the components and chips and equipment and materials it needs in the misplaced belief (and somewhat naivety) in much heralded "free trade" and "fair competition" by the West. "A thief believes everyone steal" is an axiom that accurately describes the mentality of the U.S. that believes China plans to subvert America and to steal the crown of "leader of the world" from them. Things went from bad to worse ever since, with Trump's trade war and Biden's decoupling efforts to try to contain the Chinese nation. Who else to blame but the U.S. itself? In hindsight, China should show appreciation to contemporary U.S. goverments from Barack Obama to Donald Trump and Joe Biden for waking up all Chinese to reality and working hard to achieve self-sufficiency in everything it needs -- one more time, everything it needs.

I watched a travel blog by a young couple from S Africa. They were overwhelmed by the Chinese cities. However, one thing that stood out that amazed them was the traffic lights. Apparently the traffic lights just near them are integrated with their phone. They could tell when the light would change to green, yellow, and red. They were wondering how that could be possible. I suggested that it has to do with the 5G mobile network in China. The 5G connects many things and provides near instantaneous information to people with mobile phones. As for why the west, and supposedly capitalist countries, not into high speed network. Inside China just explained that very well. Investors want a decent payback on their investment. Right now, the proverbial lemon is giving enough juice to make them happy. If they are to spend big on new network infrastructures, they would have to raise their charges to the consumers. Of course consumers won't want to cope that. So it is either the government to step in with the massive capitals, or nothing would get built...as it is now.

Huawei is already on 5.5G. The Japanese are working on what they call 6G which are actually 5.5G in Chinese standard. However the most important issue is application. This where China stand out. In 3-5 years, China will be on 6G on their mining, agriculture, business environment, IOT and also their military. Its easy for China because all these applications are already on 5G. Yep, Huawei mobile phone from this year September onward is 5.5G ready. I was just in Minnesota and there are still some areas on 3G. Maybe its the midwest. Then again I am in certain areas but seeing a 3G popped up in my phone is unreal and I am not even from China. Yes, 5G is quite widely used in my country in most major cities. We are using the Ericsson system due to political reasons but are now going to work with Huawei for 5.5G. Ericsson can't come up with a solution and so is USA.

That low latency communication is bi-directional. There is significant interest in utilising the vast "unused" processing power of mobile 'phones to "construct" a massively - parallel supercomputing resource. There are a number of very interesting papers on this very topic, mostly Chinese I note. China is already the Global leader in Supercomputing, so this development is pretty significant. People wouldn't even notice the effect on their machines, and there could be packages offering a reduction in line charges in return for a modest degree of totally-secure machine access, where 'phones aren't used to store data, but just used as a processor. 5G (and the 6G standard - 1Gbps, 100GHz bandwidth, 100 microsecond latency, supporting 10 MILLION devices/sq.km), has transformed this "distributed computing" idea from a dream into a reality.

Meaning the first general election debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump on June 27, 2024? Well, one might have noticed a thing or two therein. One is that one of the gents on the debate appeared to exhibit hampered or dysfunctional neural transmittance required of displaying comprehensible and intelligible verbal expressions. The other thing is that the other gent doesn't appear to exhibit the same problem to the same extent, but he lied a lot, like on 32 plus occasions on major facts.

Now I see Australia catching some ground up on the US: Australia is not placing tariffs on Chinese EVs, we don't think TickTok is a national security threat and we're not trying to sanction every Chinese business in sight. We are trading with them. Co-operation is so much more beneficial and profitable. And that is benefitting our exporters and our consumers. Sorry Gina Raimondo but delusional paranoia is not a basis for making good bi-lateral foreign policy. The US Administration is dumb and getting dumber!
