I love the way you put that. A cover is a note for note thing, right? The tune is a form a container that greater musicians make their own.

just watched Return of the King again, so this comment conjuring the image of Saruman's fall was a weird moment for me

I’m 20 years old listening to this everyday. this video was the first time I heard either I know you rider or China cat. Very grateful for these two musicians, I always am in a better headspace after listening. RIP David… and thank you for leaving us with a masterpiece of a cover.

You lads really nailed it. Such lovely relaxed phrasing, lots of space for expression, very complementary and well worked out - especially the clever bridging sections - but still totally natural. My hat's off to you both. There's an extra verse of "I Know You Rider" that I picked up from a John Renbourn album back in the seventies. He does it as what seems to be a very technical fingerpicking piece in A but it's quite easy I know my baby, She's bound to love me some (x2) Why she throws her arms around me Like a circle round the sun

Just came across this and outside of the Dead themselves in Europe '72 Live, this is the best rendition of "I Know You Rider" I have ever heard. Just wow. Thank you gentlemen!

Amazing. My understanding is that David has since passed which is unfortunate timing on my part to have only heard y’all play today, but my god what an amazing performance. Respectful of the Dead’s song China Cat but not beholden entirely to it and willing to do your own thing and take it different places. Truly great. And then that opening harmony on Rider. Beautiful. The whole thing was just magnificent.
