China batteries vs. Canon original: The good, the bad and the ugly
Ғылым және технология
We perform a few tests to see which China battery is best, and if the Canon original part lives up to its spec and price.
NOTE: The quality of cheap knockoff batteries varies. Even if you purchase the test winner of this video, there's NO TELLING whether or not it'll actually be good. I would not stick ANY of these batteries in my expensive camera without doing these tests first, on each individual battery.

ERRATA: I calculated the ESR wrong, the actual numbers should be DOUBLED to be correct. To calculate the ESR of a battery, I connect it to an 8-ohm load, let it stabilise, and then switch to a 4-ohm load and measure the difference in cell voltage under the higher load. If you enter the ΔV and ΔI into Ohm's law, you can solve for battery ESR. For instance, 0,37 ΔV / 0,807 ΔA = 0,458 Ohm. I accidentally calculated the ESR using the full current, not the current differential, which in this case (since the ESR of the batteries is relatively low) results in a calculated ESR that is roughly half of what it actually is. My comment about what is an appropriate ESR should also be doubled, as I was just going by the measured values.

I bought my Original LP-E17 for 52% of thr RRP (about $30) for my 760D. But that is still about 300% of some Made in China batteries but the later cannot be charged with the Orginal Canon Charger. I did buy 2 3rd party batteries for my 550D. which could be charged but when charged by Canon's charger will drain very quickly. I think many Made in China batteries just had falsely labelled capacity (mAHs) or some were just recycled from used batteries and relabelled. (Same experience with mobile phone batteries).
Thanks for putting out this video, was really very helpful!! GREAT VIDEO!
Jesus of Batteries, I could grasp less than 30%, but discharge rate, time to cut off Volts, and internal resistance are my take aways. "Sterling pounds per kg" was another blunt great trigger. Many Thanks !!!
Really nice video, thanks! I agree with you, the problem with cheap batteries is the quality control, you never know if it will be good or not.
Simple case of "buyer beware", cheaper alternatives are cheap for a reason, they're usually not made that well... :)
Would be intresting to get a few of the Bluemax batteries and tested them for constancy. Great job 👍
my camera new 6d but 1 2 hours workinf after so Hot pleas why.my card sandisk 30mb ...which change battery or card??
some producers still tell about few full charge and discharge to build full capacity in cells. Try to check how they behave after few charging.
Thanks for posting....I just ordered 2 Cheapy batteries for a cheapy grip to fit my T6i....the battery warnings and the fact that no charge % shows on the screen...first scared me and then irritated me. Lol I’ll probably order Canon batteries for that ridiculous price...and use the cheapy ones as a back up.
Can you use cheap batteries to record video?
Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip fits ?
did u try Duracell batteries ?

Great Video! Liked and subscribed! Can you please give me an advice? I want to power my bmpcc6k camera via the LP-E6 battery while using a gimbal. I Found these "BONACELL 3200mAh" batteries on ebay. The Problem is, that i don't know much about Battery technology and I'm not sure whether I should buy those or not. Can you tell whether those are good or not? Is there a softcap for battery capacity? Like 2600mAh is the highest, most likely to work properly battery, everything above is unrealistic to work reliably for a longer period of time? Appreciate your time!

Basically, all claims on Ebay of capacities bigger than the original battery's capacity are lies.

@@FFcossag Thanks! So the 2600mAh on Amazon are not good either?
Excellent as always. Thanks
Can you explain again how you measured the ESR so I can do it too?
@FFcossag

I load the battery down until it stabilises, then I switch in a known resistive load and measure how much the voltage instantly drops. That voltage drop will be the drop across the battery's ESR, so you can derive the ESR through Ohm's law.

How much do you load it down initially and if you have an 8 volt battery and put a 10 ohm load across it and it drops to 7 volts how can you figure the ESR? I think there is a step missing here, don't we need to know the current?
@FFcossag
6 жыл бұрын
I use my switchable 4/8 ohm load. Since both the voltage of the battery and the resistance of the load are known, we know the current (or we can just measure it). Since we also know that the voltage is X under an 8 ohm load and drops to Y under a 4 ohm load, the difference in battery voltage becomes the voltage drop across the ESR. Think of it as a system with a voltage source, a series resistor (ESR) and a load resistor.

I put a more detailed answer pinned at the top, since I actually did it slightly wrong in the video. Look at that for a proper explanation.

Doesn't matter, since you never know where they come from anyway. I generally just use WHBV batteries since they seem to have reasonably good standards for their stock.

How to buy.. Today... Battery lp e12. Brand.. Canon.. Vs... Etc.. Please reply massage
The big differences in the battery's is how many times they can take a charge and keep the same time of operation . Do your test after 50 cycles and watch how fast the cheaper ones lose power .
wanted this battery video fr 800d thank you
Hi mate, great chanel! Photo, audio and ghetto-planet-saving-diy-stuff. All I love in one. I want all youtube to be like this! So, I'm looking for chepo replacement batteries for my mirrorless canon, is there some good knockoff brand here in europe, or should I give the GOLD to canon? Greets from Poland

You don't know what you get with any of the cheap brands. I'd never run a knockoff battery in an expensive camera without thoroughly testing it first.

My Canon cameras use LP-E6 batteries. Made in China.
3 : Fight Fighting Fought ( not fighted )
Just bought two LP-E17 batteries for my incoming EOS R8. I will never use these chinese batteries to my camera. Like in PC, using not good PSU or power source might damaged components.
The bluemax is a good substitute for the real thing, as long as the quality stays the same. Shame the camera had a problem, we can't even say it's cheap crap :-D.

I have a lot of these half-filled notepads that I got from a school clearout. I'm too cheap to buy new ones when I can just write beside all the silly gradeschool English. For dignity's sake, I should point out that they're not my school books. ;)

the bateries only last that short because the camera rekognisesthem as fake and tries to burn their power quicker. In the original ones there is a small chip telling the camera to save power. So the fake ones are exactly as good as the original ones, only the Kamera us kinda racistic against them.
