Thanks mate, I'm now a concert from the neoprene ones.

neoprene still makes the most sense to me, weighs next to nothing, packs flat, cheap, and you really only need a barrier to stop your hand warming the drink. the other point to make is if you're sitting on one drink for half an hour you probably don't like it and should consider something else.

This will probably say more about me than anything, though I find my attention usually gets diverted, especially if I'm working away at something and my drinks (either hot or cold) usually end up at room temp before I get half way through them! That's why I thought of testing these in the first place, I hate warm Coke, or a cold cup of Earl Grey!

Great test, and thanks for putting the time in. I love my yeti that I got for XMAS only issue with these types of coolers is judging that last mouthful as they are a lot heavier than the can in a neoprene cooler.

I noticed that as well, I found myself shaking the can from side to side listening for the sloshing sound.

A very good test, i did a similar test on the kitchen table when i got a Yeti. Use mine every day in the office. Nice to come back to a cool drink after being away from it for a hour.

They seem like a great thing, and while a lot more expensive than a neoprene cover, their performance is a lot better as well.

I drink alcohol free beer in 500ml cans and have been using the Brumate (without the insert) for a number of years. It is by far the best can cooler I've ever used. Absolutly love it!

They are certainly the best I've tested so far. And the added bonus is working with the larger cans is a plus!

I am an old school tragic. I like 2 stroke dirt bikes, mechanically injected diesels, and neoprene stubby holders. I was given a Yeti, it's collecting dust. Try putting a steel stubby holder over your gear sticks.

You couldn't even do that with the stubby holder I tested. It has a bottom in it!

Completely different set of results if you replace the coke with beer, especially in the in the warm car and direct sunlight tests. So I ran some tests today and found that my first beer evaporated after 2 mins and 34 seconds. But with a constant temp of 4 degrees. Well within the 5 degree range of the neoprene stubby holder. Now the second and 3rd beer evaporated in quick succession, also well within the yeti range of 5 mins each. I then switched the testing to bourbon and coke and also found the drinks to be evaporating before the Yeti holder got to over 5 degrees C. My other observation is (With beer at least) is if your drink reaches over 5 degrees within 10 mins you should hand in your man card. However, premix gin and wine drinkers would benefit from the Brumate holder as I noticed they tend not have their drinks evaporate as fast. Usually because they talk for ages. Oh, and VB cans which would take me at least 6 hours to finish one. 😜😜😜😜

@@LockyourHubs4WDing testing ongoing 😆 Seriously though, I find the yeti not nice to drink from because of the thicker lip around the edge. Do prefer the old school ones. Cheers for the upload

Idea for another comparison.... How much less efficient (if at all) is a 12v upright fridge, compared to a chest type fridge? I changed from a 60 litre Engel to a Dometic 110 upright a few years ago to save weight in my 5 tonne Silverado. Empty Engel plus drop down slide plus "cage" around the whole lot, weighed about 100kg.... Empty Dometic weighs about 28kg. I haven't noticed any downsides, but we're an older couple (no longer have kids opening the fridge every 5 minutes). Plenty of people keep telling me that too much cokd air escapes every time the door is opened. I maintain that the thermal mass is retained by the contents, and unless the fridge is left open for an inordinate amount of time, there is little to no drop in temperature.

Even with the top loading fridges, when data logging I noticed a large drop in air temperature when opening the fridge. It took anywhere up to about half an hour to get back down to temperature. It makes sense that a front opening fridge would lose a larger amount of cold air when the door was opened. Whether there is a major difference in performance and energy usage in comparison between the two, I'm not sure and would need to test it. Though instinctively I would say the front opening would not be as efficient, though I am not sure how much. And I've been wrong plenty of times!

Would like to see which one is more cost effective on these 3 units. Also would like to see what the difference would be if you had put the yeti one in the freezer the same amount of time as freezing the puck. ✌

Simon, this video had everything graphs, cartoons information and of course, one of my favourite subjects, keeping the drinks cold. But do you think it would change with the density of liquid as in beer versus soft drink? And I also think it was unfair that you use Coca-Cola😁. Remember the Coca-Cola Pepsi challenge. Thanks for the video Simon

Water has a specific gravity of 1 and beer is 1.001, there's not much in it! 😁 Coke won the Coke/Pepsi war right?

I used to pre-chill, or pre-heat vacuum thermos flasks until I actually tested it. (There's a video on the channel). Unfortunately it makes zero difference in performance.
