    You did an amazing job with presenting care information. I have been keeping a few of these in the US for years, and they are just the best reptile pets if someone wants a real python but not a large snake. I tuned in just to see the animals, but I ended up listening to it all. 👍

    I got a male Children't python at around 5 months old. He's almost 2 years now. I actually went with a more semi-arboreal setup and he seems to like it. When I first got him, he burrowed in the substrate for a bit. But then when I added a basking light he totally goes up there during the day. He has a ground cave with moist moss and a cave attached to the side with a flat top for basking. He also has a basket attached to the side he likes- what's funny is sometimes he will lay in the basket, and sometimes draped on the rim like a tree snake. He is mostly in the higher cave and sometimes in the ground one. He seems pretty smart, he will come out if I come talk to him. I see him more active during the day, but maybe I just miss when he's active at night. He is a fantastic eater and I rotate between quail chicks and fuzzy mice. My only problem is he seems to quickly get overexcited. If I don't give him time to check me out properly he will strike at me. I've been working to open his enclosure and slowly put my hand nearby so he can smell me and knows I'm not always bringing him food. I don't take him out to hold because I don't want him to be scared of my hands. I held him a few times when he was younger and he did well, no biting attempts while holding him. I live in Florida, USA so our temps and humidity are generally pretty good for him. It's pretty rare to see Antaresia around here, so I had to get him when my local shop got one in.

    Amazing video!! Thank you for being so thorough, I bought my Stimson Python yesterday and the tips you gave in the video were amazing, I have found that over night there was a bit of condensation build up where the snake was sleeping, should I be worried or could it be just the coconut substrate drying out under the heat mat?

  • @ReptileWay

    @ReptileWay

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks soo much for the positive feedback! When you have a heat mat, or any other heat source for that matter, it will cause water to evaporate from the substrate and this increases the humidity. It's nothing to be worried about as these guys, (even though they are considered a more desert dwelling Children's python) can survive in varied humidity conditions from 40%- to 90%+. So all in in all nothing to worry about, it's just evaporation and the substrate drying out. So when it does start to dry out you can just spray over it with a spray water bottle. I would recommend having the humidity around 50%, as it's perfect conditions for these guys and easy to maintain by just spraying the enclosure every couple of days or so. Having the humidity conditions right will assist with shedding and keep scales in nice condition. Humidity in the enclosure will be effected by where you live and the humidity conditions there. Hope this helps 🙏

    In my personal opinion if it's an adult I would say it is too small as they get to 1 to 1.5m in length and in that enclosure it can't stretch out its body properly. Even with all the climbing possibilities. Apologies if it's not the answer you were after!

    This is sometimes a hot topic of debate. However, most knowledgeable reptile owners, breeders and vets advise against using pine shavings, for various reasons. I would recommend you to do some research yourself on this matter, so you can decide for yourself. Personally, I would not choose to use pine shavings for any of my snakes and other reptiles. Just got my first snake last week, a spotted. Here in Brissy at the moment it’s still reaching 28-29 degrees during the day. Should I be leaving the heat source off during the day currently? It’s set to a thermostat which regulates the basking spot at 32 degrees but if it’s already warm I wouldn’t want it to cause any potential overheating?

  • @ReptileWay

    @ReptileWay

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment! It really can be playing it by ear. It depends if it's in a room with or without aircon or outside, as well as size of the enclosure. A good plan to gauge chances of overheating is to check temperatures of the room or outdoor area. I would recommend taking temperature readings at 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 5pm. It's best done on a day's off, and if you can try do it when it's forecast to be a particularly hot day. If you do these temperature readings over a couple weeks you can get a better idea. If the room or where it is, goes above 35 to 37 degrees could be a chance of overeating if you add a heating element. If a snake is too cold however, they will generally stop feeding, or go longer periods without food. If it's in a big enough enclosure where it's got somewhere to escape the heat, you could just have a 50W, no more than 100W heat bulb (get night time ones that emit no light, then you can have it on dar or night). A good hack of making sure they have a cool spot to escape to, you could partially bury a PVC pipe in the substrate, in which they can fit and hide in. Hope this helps! 🙏

    How could I go by having a tub with a heat mat down in central Victoria the temperature can go to 43 degrees in summer and in winter it can get to -6 at night I have no clue what do do about this, I feel like a heat mat on 24/7 under a hide on one side would be the best in a big tub since they are nocturnal and they aren’t usually out during the day it can mess with their natural habits having a heat lamp, please help what do I do

  • @ReptileWay

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment 😊 Being down south I know how chilly it can get! If it was me personally I would have a heat mat underneath the hide area set at between 25 to 28 degrees celsius. Now for the heat lamp, the type of heat bulb shown in this video emits very little light, and the little light it does emit mimics moonlight almost, so it will not disrupt their sleep cycle. It is made for the purpose of being used at night time (Never use red heat lights, that will disrupt sleep). I recommend this bulb because if you're in cold areas you can have it on 24/7, throughout the day and night. However, be gentle with the bulb as it is very fragile! So all in all, in winter times you can use both heating elements day and night to achieve the desired temperatures. Hope this helped! 🙏

  • @ReptileWay

    @ReptileWay

    2 жыл бұрын

    The reason why I stated the temperatures for the heat mat to be 25 to 28 degrees, is if you're using both heat mat and heat lamp, so your fella is not going to over heat. if you're soley just going to use a heat mat and not a heat lamp as well, in winter time I would recommend that the heat mat covers 2/3 of the enclosure and you can have its set between 28 to 35 degrees celsius. if your using both elements, mat and heat lamp, you might be fine with a smaller heat mat, covering its entire hide area. Always make sure you monitor temperatures, and make sure heat mat is attached to a thermostat so it can't overheat 😊 I hope this information is useful to you 🙏

That means importation of non-native species must've been strictly enforced to prevent the invasive species. Now, we don't have a lot of the different morphs of children's pythons like you have over there. They're not a very popular snake here in the United States. Everyone loves Ball Pythons here. @@ReptileWay Yeah but you guys have the coolest reptiles on the planet! The situation here isn't good, because we have a big problem with invasive reptile species like Iguanas, Boa Constrictors, and Tegus are thriving in Florida, because irresponsible people let them go out into wild. Now, Our government situation is confusing here, because the States can make their own laws without the permission of the Federal government in Washington DC. Anyway, long story short some members of our government want to destroy the exotic pet trade here, by making white list of approved animals like dogs and cats, and live stock. It's a mess over here. The members of the exotic pet community are fighting against this ban. It has a lot of restrictions that would turn ordinary citizens into criminals. For example, if we live in one State and then decide to move to another we cannot bring our pet into that other state. That's why we are fighting against it. Sorry this post is long.
