    Berlin was stormed by Soviet soldiers who had defended Rzhev and Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk, defeated the Germans in Europe and the Balkans, storming Konigsberg and Seelow Heights. They were battle-hardened veterans, not herd, as they are shown in the film. When Soviet scouts established an assault banner over the Reichstag, the fighting in the Reichstag itself continued: in the cellars, German soldiers were holding the defense, and fighting continued on the floors with soldiers from the French division of SS Charlemagne. Soviet soldiers literally bayonets cleared the way to the banner group on the roof. And only after the complete capture of the building was hoisted the Banner of Victory - the Banner of the 150th "Idritskaya" Rifle Division, which was captured in the photo and video. In the Soviet army, after its entry into the German territory, an order was in force, according to which the court of military tribunal threatened soldiers for marauding and violent actions against civilians. In exceptional cases, shooting was permitted on the spot without trial, if circumstances so required. However, for such a small thing as the clock could not pay attention. This entire film is a collection of the most disgusting propaganda cliches and is a frank anti-Soviet and anti-Russian propaganda in the best traditions of the Cold War. P.S.: In the film, Soviet soldiers smoke and do not stand in the presence of officers. /o\

    you don´t seem to realise that Stalin send his soldiers into the fight like cattle to the slaughterer he didn`t even alow tactical retreats or anything likewise... I do not doubt that there were many brave russian soldiers but their Leadership was as reckless as the Nazis` also this whole Operation was pure bullshit since it was only done to get this Picture out at the 1st of May therefore it already was shot before the Reichstag was fully under soviet Control since they didn`t want to lose time. The capture of Berlin would`ve probably been delayed for weeks if the soviet General in Charge didn`t hide the statistics about the losses...

  • @speedyguydima

    @speedyguydima

    I really feel sorry that you think that Stalin sent his soldiers to die like that. It appears you have fallen for the classic Wehraboo myth of Soviet hordes and human waves. Tactical retreats were not Stalin's responsibility, it was the front commanders who were responsible for strategic retreats on a front. Tactical retreats were done on a lower level with approval from high command. Before you tell me people who retreated were gunned down, that was actually rare. Their main purpose was not to shoot retreating soldiers but to re-organize them, determine who can go back to the front and court-martial people responsible for unsanctioned retreats. There is absolutely no reason to shoot experienced front line soldiers just to make an example. Some were shot, but that was not the purpose of the barrier troops. The initial stages of the war were terrible for the Soviets, they were surprised, in transition of improving their military and recovering from a purge. It wasn't as much recklessness as it was inexperience. By 1943, the tables have turned drastically. They were on the offensive most of the war. Also, I'd like you to read up on Deep Battle Theory and Maskirovka, those tactics do no seem reckless to me. American military has the same law to prevent unsanctioned retreats. Funnily enough the Wehrmacht also had both penal battalions and 'blocking detachments' in the form of the Feldjäger, but one doesn't hear so much about them. The picture itself was taken May 2nd. This film truly does have the disgusting and over-used cliches.

    The fact that this movie shows Soviet troops looting German soldiers shows how little Americans understand about WW2 and the suffering the Russians endured through it. The amount of hate Russians felt towards the Germans was enormous, so even if they'd find German watches, they'd end up crushing and smashing them in rage, and then burn them with fire. They hated Germans and everything German more than the devil itself. If you have enough time to think about what expensive item to steal, then you don't really care about the war and don't care about who you're fighting even, which wasn't the case, given every single family had at least one sibling involved in the bloodshed.

    sota Well to be honest, without U.S. aid, Britain and the rest of Europe would have fallen to the Nazis. Not to mention the Soviets were losing badly during the beginning of the war, but the U.S. and Britain greatly supplied them. Hitlers mistake was he took on literally the whole world, which hurt him in the end because he got raped from every side.
