Too many people treat tiny dogs like stuffed animals, and just try to grab them and pick them up. They need careful and considerate handling, especially nervous little dogs like Alison.

Yeah, it's like they forget that they're dogs, act the same way you would with a bigger dog

Ikr, my brother once threw MY dog that he knows I think of my dog as my CHILD I felt my dog's head bump on my shoulder, of course it made me mad so I told my aunt since our mom wasn't home, my aunt and grandma said it was no big deal but my dog looked like she was gonna cry so it made me sad and I get why my dog doesn't feel safe with my brother she always comes to me and doesn't like to sit next to my brother

I LOVE that HE CARES!!! He didn't just "leave it to his wife."
@claragpariente

It's his dog too. Why do you value that a man takes care of the dog? I guess the way the woman acts is considered natural, but why should be a possibility the "leave it to his wife"? Not a very progressive comment...

@claragpariente3815 You sound silly. You felt the need to reply to a comment that I made a year ago that was 100% positive, didn't critique or criticize anyone, and expressed appreciation for a man that cared for his pets and participated in their care and training??? Unfortunately, that isn't something that happens frequently on this show. Many episodes of this show feature men that do the exact opposite. Perhaps your understanding of the comment is as skewed as your ability to fluently express your thoughts. NEXT....

@@goldirox9014 As silly as your education. Well done! I comment because I can, this is public!
This should have been quite obvious. Alison is a _tiny_ dog, Peter looks to be over six foot tall and has worked out to the point where he's built like a tank. If he looked at _me_ the wrong way, I'd be scared of him, let alone a miniature dog being loomed over by a giant! She barely comes up to the tops of his ankles at 1:13, and if you imagine a creature so large that it would make you feel that small, it would be quite terrifying. Even before Victoria came in, the right approach would have been to just sit on the ground away from her but in the same room, not even kneeling like he was but sitting in an unthreatening way with legs stretched out to show relaxed status and also "telegraphing" his inability to just instantly leap over to grab her (what she's scared of - quite a rational fear for a small animal). Let her explore around him in her own time and see that he doesn't mean her any harm and eventually, potentially with food, she would have come to him. Peter does also need to work on a softer voice, which can be hard for a big (and dare I venture macho) man, but to give him credit he was trying albeit that there's some way to go still. Good work by the couple in getting help from Victoria and following her instructions so successfully though!

i am 4 foot 5 so i am very understanding of what SO many animals go through. we humans are HUGE!
Aw this little girl melts my heart! You can totally see she wants to interact! she’s just unsure. When he was picking up Allison, you could tell how much more excited she was getting every time even though her tail was in between her legs, she was warming up to him and it was wagging! It’s so adorable 😫❤️
Awee this is so wholesome!! It's good to see owners in this show that clearly weren't doing anything bad from the start, also!!

Well he pretty obviously did some things wrong from the start.
Peter is such a sweetheart, he cares so much about Alison and wants her to feel safe. This video is so wholesome!
Oh god, this made me tear up. 8 years ago I adopted a badly badly abused chihuahua. He was always so scared especially of men and hands and it took so much time to teach him to trust me at all, like almost two years till he fully trusted me to for example pick him up without trying to snap at me. It took several month more to make him stop snapping every time he felt threatened. I cried the first time he actually removed himself from an unpleasant situation instead of lashing out by himself. Only about 2-3 years ago he finally started trusting other women to pick him up for example and about 2 years ago was the first time another man aside from my brother could touch him. We always have to teach him very very slowly and my friend has such a calm demeanor that my dog finally started to calm down one day when he was just in the same room. Other men before had never understood to not pressure him, he did and so basically ignored my dog for a maybe a month and slowly he started to stay on his bed or sleep closer to him every time he came over until one day I started telling my friend to give him a treat every time he came over and out of the blue one day my dog just sat beside him at cuddled up to him. At first you could still see the tension in his body while doing so but after a while he threw himself on his back at let him pet him. Since then it became a lot easier to introduce him to other men. Only one was allowed to pick him up so far but he doesn't run away from them anymore the moment he sees them unless they are really really big with a very deep voice. In that case it still takes awhile for him to trust and I suppose he will never stop being a generally anxious dog but you can't imagine just how much better it is now. He runs up to my male friends tail wiggling and wanting to be pet, shows his belly, let's them lead him on a walk and every time he started to trust more I was just swamped with so much relief. I will never ever understand how you can batter a dog especially a living being that is just so small and really can't defend itself. I know Allison was probably not mistreated but a lot of things can lean to an anxious dog and it's just so freaking beautiful to see them calm down and trust and not be afraid all the time. Sorry for the long text it just made me so happy to see this.

I loved reading this. So glad your little one can relax with new friends, at least somewhat!
It's lovely that he wanted to help the dog and tried so hard - with success!
We have a Chi mix that also hated pick ups. She communicated with a growl. But picking up is needed at times, to help onto bed or vet check ups, etc. She is awkward to hold and support. Barrel chested, long... So first I thought about her shape and how best to help her feel comfortable and secure while being picked up. I was the only one who could pick her up at the time. Working with my oldest son, we worked on just a side touch and reward. Both sides touch, reward. Always watching her body language. Little steps. Finally a slight lift and right back down. Rewards at every step and going her comfort level pace. We added a "pick up" cue. Now we do not need treats, but still look for consent and readiness. Holding our hands out in front of her we say "pick up" and she walk into them. We don't pick her up often. As she doesn't like it. Same with head pets. She's a neck, chest and back stritches gal. Let her come to you.
[Allison is so cute. I wouldn't want to be picked up either, it's like being lifted 50 feet into the air]
I have a chi mix BUT she jumps up your legs to ask to be picked up. If you lean down and say "Up, uuuup" she jumps into your hands when you need her too. But this explains why alot of people are surprised at her behaviour.
Chihuahuas are small and nervous dogs anyway. Peter is really trying and you can tell he cares for his dog.
Your videos are so helpful like literally! I managed to train my dogs using the tips I found in your videos and I'm so thrilled✨
This is the cutest little bond lol

awww I love chihuahuas! even though they can be a bit yappy etc at times…they are so small and cute! 🥰
"PICKUUUP" OOOO 😂😂😂
The part where she tells him soften his voice is so true. My ex brother in law had a puppy bad he would try to get it to come by using a low voice and very sternly telling the dog to come. Of course the dog just sits there not wanting to come over. So I told him to use a higher, less demanding voice so he did, and called the dog who came running happily up to him. I just thought….it’s so SIMPLE yet a lot of people don’t get it. Like if someone is almost yelling at you to come to them and is using a rough voice as a human most of us would not go over. If they use a friendly welcoming voice we’re far more likely to come over.
I have nine chihuahuas and some of them back up into my hands….I think it’s not as scary for them. But they all allow me to pick them up in their own way but I’ve had chihuahuas for 20+ years they are smart feisty intelligent little dogs
I love that name for a dog. She’s adorable
Peter can practice Pick Up with me any time.

Lol my one loves being picked up but hates other dogs
YAY I was first to view :D and first to like
My 2p, dogs shouldn't be picked up unless absolutely necessary. Only time ours have been picked up is in and out of the car when there have been medical reasons. There's just no need.
She needs a brother, buddy...would really help her...or a support kitty
hi Victor why do people assume that if you don't have dogs you cannot be a dog trainer because I don't have any dogs and I love to train dogs and I've never even trained dogs but people always make fun and be like oh yes but you can’t train a dog you have never had one so what do I do
My Chihuahua only allows me and my son to pick him up.
Lol her name Allison
For two years, this guy cannot get his dog to go on his lap. Even my rabbit can do that. But he's great at the training Victoria told him!
Victoria what do you think about that vegan teacher not letting her dog eat normal food like meat and giving her celery sticks and grass?
@melissagoodman1833
2 жыл бұрын
Dogs are not biologically designed to be vegan- They need to have meat in their diet in order to thrive. Just because humans are able to thrive on a vegan/vegetarian diet, doesn't mean we should force that diet on dogs. You can tell what type of diet an animal needs to eat based on its teeth. Animals with flat teeth are designed to eat plants and animals with pointy teeth are designed to eat meat. Every single tooth inside a dog's mouth is pointy for the sole purpose of breaking down meat and bone. A dog could technically survive on a vegetarian diet, they cannot thrive and that will create some serious health issues at some point.
A very human name for a dog

Idk if this is true or not but I’ve heard from several studies that dog names became more and more similar to human names over the past decade because people feel increasingly lonely in societies and try to replace animals with human family members or partners. (Which is wrong and doesn’t help the dogs)
very out of the blue but damn peter OKAY
It means don’t pick up your dog
You brought a trainer over for this???
To be fair, I wouldn't want to be lifted 50ft into the air. I dont even like piggy backs anymore. Some dogs are so tiny that's what it feels like to them!
My pug only let my dad pick him up

THIS WENT ON FOR 2 YEARS!!! WHAT? NO WONDER SHE DOESN'T TRUST THEM, 2 YEARS!

God dang it's a Chihuahua what do you expect from it? It wants to be left alone.
its realy nice that they want to improve the bond to the dog but why you need to pick the dog up?…. if this was a rottweiler no one would come up withe the idea: oh i need to be able to pick him up. its a dog and it has four legs. let it on the floor.
The girl can pick me up anytime

Am I the only one that noticed that Yvonne looks pissed at Alison at the end? 😂 like she’s jealous of their relationship or something
Is it just me or does the woman look…er…not that happy that "her" dog actually wants to be with her?!? Maybe it’s just me!
