Chief warrior native American skull art metal facemask forged Sheet metal Blacksmith

Chief warrior native American #skullart metal face #mask forged Sheet metal Blacksmith DIY
Hello all and welcome back to Empty Pockets Ironworks. For this weeks build I thought I would take you all along with one of my old but favorite projects. I love old world and Norse and Native American cultures. Truth be told According to the government I have native blood in me and according to my family crest and lineage we originated from Scandinavia- migrated to Ireland and eventually the USA around the turn of the century. My Great grandfather took a bride Viola Teehee the daughter of a medicine man from around Peru Kansas. Hence the Teehee- Hasty family SO I grew up enjoying native culture and fantasy art which I thing has melded really well with my Ironworks as an artist.
Now that you know more about my family than you cared too I hope you all enjoy the video, I tried to keep it as entertaining and engaging as possible giving the subject matter.
Materials for this project was simply 14 gauge plate, I extensively use my Valley Tool (balls) and a cedar block as well as a shotput ball and an anvil. If you attempt one of these using my templates please share I would love to see other work inspired by any of my works or at least helped along with my techniques.
As I mention in the video this is always a great seller for us and a super fun way to keep those shaping skills in check. Each can be so dramatically different looking and that is part of what makes these so great to make.
For the Channel we are hovering around 2050 subs!!!! That is so exciting, I truly hope that it continues to grow and That I can continue to come up with creative content for you all.
As always please make sure to subscribe -share and Comment the simple act of commenting and or hitting the like button really helps me out tremendously.
If you have any ideas for projects to try in the future please let me know I would love to try and take on a project put forth by my viewers.
I greatly appreciate each and everyone of you, Thank you so much for the continued views and comments.
See you next week
Chris

Leave the nay sayers to their keyboards...this is fantastic work! I am reading the comment about the "precise eye socket as it relates to race"...HA! I always like to say...show me the one you made, then we can talk about it. Very happy to have found your channel. I was looking for advice about making a deer skull with mustang headers for antlers. Can't afford the fancy ones...so I thought I would make my own.

HEY BROTHER! I found this video when I was looking for mask forging specifically 😅 Anyway, getting to the end and listening, I didn't even notice you didn't have music going. The work and the well versed explanations of what, how, and why you do everything was all that was needed for me.

I like to hear the sounds of the work. It's nice to have the commentary descriptions of the process. Fun work to watch. I've made a few 3D sheet metal sculptures, but not a wall mount. Inspiring me to get at it again. Thank you from an old Maine blacksmith.

Cool project! Here's something that you might find interesting. Eye socket shape differs based on where you're ancestors are from. If you're from European ancestry you have aviator shaped eye sockets, Asian is rounded, and African is more square shaped. Also, the brow ridge (orbital torus) dictates male or female. Males have a pronounced brow ridge while women don't. This skull looks like a male of European ancestry. Native American would be more rounded. None of this really matters but it might be something fun to think about while you're banging on iron.

That is super cool and really helpful info! I did know a bit of it my previous skull helmet builds both have different eye socket shapes. In the future I may add different shape options to templates. As they are mainly just fantastical I honestly just learned towards a menacing but convincing look. Thank you for the comment I greatly appreciate it

Wonderful work Chris! Folk and bluegrass music is right up my alley, but I also like the running dialogue regarding what you are doing. Kinda makes it feel like I'm looking over your shoulder as you work. Maybe mix it up. I'll watch regardless. Hope you do well at the show this weekend and the weather cooperates.

My opinion: Subtle music that doesn't overpower while you're working is ok. For tutorials I'd prefer no music. Lot's of fabrication channels have no music. Maybe a little intro and outro music only. I like the way Ron Covell edits his videos where he speeds up slower parts. He's also an amazing sheet metal craftsman. Thanks for sharing the forming skills. You make it look easy.

I like this format. But I also like the music. Maybe use music on the intro and exit. And some "Hammer" music (Dulcimers..lol) during a scene of the metal being heated up. Oh.. and if you could sell some popcorn that would be great as well...extra butter! Great Job Chris

I like to hear the sounds of the hammer striking metal, the grinding etc.. Much can be gleaned from the ring of the metal and the different dullness when using wood vs metal for shaping. The sounds can be as much of an education as the visuals. I just found your channel and just subscribed. I love it and I will be watching regularly regardless of what you choose to do about the music, but that’s my two and 1/2 cents worth. This is right up my alley and I feel like I just struck gold. Thank you!

Hey Chris, I really enjoyed this video. Regarding that valley tool you made, what is the diameter of the two tow hitch balls and when you welded them together were the balls touching each other or did you leave a gap? Keep up the good work.

I just found your channel and enjoyed your video. Subscribed! I'm just learning about metal work and welding and I have a question. I don't have a forge so can all this work be done without a forge? And I really like the commentary, you explaining what you're doing.

  • @wrotiron

    @wrotiron

    Жыл бұрын

Thank you and to answer your question yes, a build like the chief skull can be done without a forge if using 16-18 gauge mild plate steel or sheet metal. Caution must be exercised while stretching the material cold as it has a tendency to split around edges or thin overly worked areas.

Ya I like to watch videos having people with something to say and got some wit about them. Nothing more disappointing then turning on a video and the creator can't say a word and expect us to read tiny text that flashes by before you get it all read. That belongs in a book. Music is over rated and that what all the drowns are going to tell you because they know it's going to make it harder for you to make.
