They are talking about WW1, the germans came up with a new tactic to break the enemy lines by forming small groups with top of the line gear to assault the lines specialized in close combat they also got experimental weapons like prototypes for submachineguns and such. The blitzkreig line is that this shock troop tactic eventually evolved into WW2 blitzkrieg

The object was to take as much ground as possible, if they met pockets of resistance they just went around and left that for the following regular infantry to take care of.

@@darkiee69yep. Their job wasn't to hold any ground. It's to weaken the ranks of enemies for the infantry to push forward more easily.

As was mentioned this is about WW1 - The Stormtroopers or well in this case Sturmtruppen are a type of infantry specialized in shock tactics. They are basically the best trained, and best equipped units with specific gear that helps them take the trenches in close quarters. The germans generally recruited them from the Jagers (which is why "Jagers led the way"). All the sides in the war came to employ units like this but the germans perfected the tactic and thus their's are the most well known. They aren't the first shock troops (such units were used across the history) but they are the first modern shock units alongside the italian Arditi. They played crucial role in several major German successes near the end of the war (Such as the Spring Offensive - Kaiserschlacht, as mentioned in the song) though came much too late to sway the outcome of the war in their favor - the losses, military exhaustion and economic freefall meant that at that point Germany was about to fall apart.

@@samuel10125 I have found 0 mentions of that - what I did find is that the british manuals for shocktroops came after both german and italian shock troops were a thing

@FuFightersStudio maybe I've been suckered in by that then because it's something I've heard constantly usely from Canadian that they where feared by the Germans and even Sir David Loyd George called them the shock troops of the empire?

@@samuel10125 Sure, Canadians had some of the most elite troops in Entente. As for shock troops - dont forget that they have been a thing since Ancient Greece in variety of ways across the history. However if we talk modern trench warfare shocktroops, the first ones to establish specific units with codified tactics and standartized gear were the German Sturmtruppen and Italian Arditi. After the success of these other nations quickly caught up. If we were to widen the definition to a bit less specific it would actually turn out that first modern stormtroops were Paraguyan

Great reaction! Since I had a dad that was the human version of a historybook when it came to all things WWI and WWII, I know most of the stories Sabaton sing of in their songs but I love how they make it so easy to follow and learn from. Epic music mixed with historic events worth learning from and remembering. That they are my country men does not make them any less great 😁 I love Black Adder but its been too long, time to rewatch it by other words, last seen it when it was aired on Swedish TV so many years ago 😏 Just finding it now might prove a misson, so many years later 🤔😅 Anyway, great time spent with you on this reaction. Look forward to the next one! 😊

In reality the stormtroopers got slayed from mashinegun fire and artillery like any other storm attack from any side. no winners, no glory. fuck war

not really - they were way more effective and actually successful tactic which broke the stalemate - of course that doesn't mean they are bulletproof or anything. But compared to the mass charges done before, this tactic was way less deadly and way more viable. Much of the reason why the spring offensive of 1918 was so successful (even if it was last dying breath of a behemoth) is due to Stormtroopers.

Great song. Comment got deleted. I was going to say this really embodies the insane speed and violence of the stormtroopers and their preferred tactics, especially the "calm before the storm" when you hear the male vocals before the face-melting guitar solo, with the drum creeping up in intensity until it hits you in the face. The stormtroopers were apparently able to time their attacks to immediately follow artillery strikes, which in those days would have required extremely good coordination and communication. If you like percussion so much, you might consider Mimic- Rage and Scream from Ace Combat 7. It's an insane groove. I also agree about the Blackadder scene. Hard to watch with dry eyes.

If you like Sabaton, check out the band 1914. All of their songs are World War I related and they capture the fell and horror of that war so well. Stosstrupp 1917, Don't Tread on Me, Verdun, and a Cross Now Marks His Place are all good starting points.
