God was so good to me for me to have met Chief Omokomoko several times. He stayed at our home several times, while my Papa recorded his music in the 60's. He was and still a Genius. He will in a split second come with an original lyric.

I saw this by accident after a friend sent me a link to another Urhobo music. The wave of emotion that overcame me in the first two minutes of hearing the song brought hot, uncontrollable tears to my eyes at my work place. I managed to gather myself after 3 minutes and paused it-pending when i could clear the myriads of thoughts that occupied every inch of my consciousness. The next day, i summoned full courage to hear the maestro hone his skill and left me fully electrified, thrilled and reminded of who i was after over a decade in Europe! I'm so looking forward to reconnecting with the land of my forebearers. Much thanks goes to whoever uploaded this song. It touched me in ways more you'd ever know. Urhobo mè na? Ovuo vo!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, you are listening to the Steve Wonder of the Delta State. Chief Omokomoko was as blind as Steve Wonder. However, he was jamming long before Stevie Neverdies. The Chief had a bicycle tire tube which he waved across his own face occasionally to improve his sight, albeit temporarily. Nothing was written down during music composition - all in the head, over 35 albums, I believe. He was to the ‘agogo’ (cow bell) as Tony Allen is to the drums. Just listen to the agogo at about 22.43 and 30.06 of Happy Christmas & New Year. I just can’t enough. No one plays it like him. Check out the long ‘ring’ on the agogo at about 3.40 of P.W.D. He sang about everything including the epileptic power supply in the country, which has since taken a turn for the worse. Check out this link for more of the inimitable and veritable musician: www.naijastories.com/2012/05/chief-omokomoko-osokpa-the-pioneer-of-urhobo-contemporary-music/ Ozigizaga, Chief Omokomoko (R.I.P.P). Agogo bohswe. May your agogo never rest.

My uncle had all his albums up to the 1980s. I will dig them up, dust them up and see if they will still be playable.
