God I love chickens. I love chickens soo goddamn much. I want to own a chicken but I live in a cramped apartment and I can't do it legally. I decorated a tissue box with a chicken face so I could pretend I own one, but every day I wake up crying because of the fact that the Australian government has forbidden me from owning a chicken. I've been saving up money to move to somewhere that allows chickens like norway or something so I could finally achieve my life goal. My parents came by my room last night, and confronted me about the lack of motivation in my life, but I explained to them for the 1 millionth' time that I would be able to continue my political science degree if I was able to own a chicken. they left the room crying and I punched a hole in the wall out of frustration. I've been buying eggs in bulk and cracking them in the bath so I can be with my kind. My roommate joked about tarring and feathering me to make me "normal". I lit his bed on fire. Please, if you read this, send me a chicken. I don't care about the laws, I just want a chicken. I live at 10 Beaconsfield Road. Send me a chicken, or a fertile egg, I've got the incubation set up. I will pay full price. If you cannot, please refer me to a no questions asked poultry delivery service. Please, I've been suffering for so long. Just give me a chicken.

PhD zoologist here. This is *NONSENSE.* This *MISUNDERSTANDING/MISINTERPRETATION* comes from the results of scientific research comparing T. rex collagen protein with 21 living organisms. The group of living organisms analysed included humans, chimps, mice, *chickens, ostriches, alligators* and salmon. T. rex's collagen proved to be most similar to chickens and ostriches; its next closest match was to alligators. *It is this finding that got misinterpreted as meaning that chickens are the closest living T. rex relative.* This is WRONG. *It ONLY shows that of the 21 animals analysed, the chicken was the most similar* to T. rex, *not that the chicken is the most similar of ANY animal.* And it's not at all surprising that 2 birds from the test group came out closest; it's well established that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs (and _are_ dinosaurs), the group that T. rex itself evolved from. Likewise with regard to the alligator being third closest; crocodilians are more closely related to dinosaurs than others from the test group. ------------------------------ But even if you have no idea of the science that explains why this is wrong, just consider this sequence... - chickens are a relatively young group, only in existence about 8,000 years - they evolved (through domestication) from the red jungle fowl - the red jungle fowl is therefore the direct antecedent of the chicken, or if you prefer; chickens are the direct descendent of the red jungle fowl - red jungle fowl are STILL LIVING - red jungle fowl are therefore temporally nearer T. rex ...it doesn't require much reasoning to see that antecedent species, that is, species closer in time to the common ancestor with T. rex are more likely to have collagen sequences closer to T. rex than a chicken that's only been around a few thousand years ! The point of the above sequence is to show that the very bird chickens CAME FROM AND IS STILL LIVING is likely to be more closely related to T. rex ! *And the earliest extant birds are likely closest of all.*

Sadly I believe you are wrong. Chickens aren't the closest living relatives to the dinosaurs. Crocodilians are the closest living relatives of the dinosaurs. As for chickens. They just, are dinosaurs. No stretch of the word.

It's amazing that these little dinosaurs can even mimic human speech: the budgie (remember Disco?), parrots, starlings and even crows, ravens and magpies.
