Chicken Run is a 2000 animated comedy film produced by Pathé and Aardman Animations in partnership with DreamWorks Animation. Aardman's first feature-length film, it was directed by Peter Lord and Nick Park from a screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick and based on an original story by Lord and Park.Set in the countryside of Yorkshire, the plot centres on a group of British anthropomorphic chickens who see an American rooster named Rocky Rhodes as their only hope to escape the farm when their owners want to turn them into chicken pies. As someone who grew up in the UK and was born around when this was made, I wasn’t scared of it but I do remember this film just making me go “wow”. As a kid it was really cool just how grim this film is, and the pie machine always sticks out to me because of grey and industrial it is, it was both really dark and really cool. I think this film is really nostalgic too because even though I’m from Yorkshire (the same area this is set) which is the countryside, it’s really grey, and I absolutely always loved how this film captures that vibe of just how washed out and bleak the colours are, in other words it’s very English hhhh

I love how they’re describing how brutal Mrs Tweedy’s death is, only to leave out the fact that she survives the machine’s explosion, only to have a door fall on her and kill her while she screams in terror. Wow, Eden predicted that chickens cannot fly. What a genius.
Some fun chicken facts for the boys: • The Mel Gibson rooster is likely the only intact male chicken in the movie. The other males are probably capons; male chickens who have had their testes surgically removed. This makes their meat more tender and the lack of testosterone makes them fat. It's a common practice in the meat chicken industry. • There actually are wild chickens. They are found in Malaysia. Look up red jungle fowl and green jungle fowl. • All birds have cloacas, both males and females. The cloaca hosts the s*x organs as well as serves as the exit for the passing of manure. Birds f*ck and sh*t with the same hole.

"Alright, Ginger, it's my turn"
This film got it's inspiration by the 1960s war film The Great Escape, all the times Ginger goes into the box was reminiscent of Steve McQueen going into solitary. It's implied Chicken Run is set around the end of WWII or near the 1950s. Another fun fact about this fil is that the hen that's killed, Edwina, is a reference to a Conservative British politician named Edwina Currie. Currie was the former Health Minister who was ruined by salmonella scare that led to egg sales in the UK dropping by 60% and a cull of four million chickens in 1988.

"Great Scott, what was that?" "A cling on, captain!" How in the world did I not realize that this was a Star Trek reference?
As someone who grew up in a farm in Mexico let me say something...Killing a chicken that doesn't lay eggs is actually normal because they can't afford to sustain an animal that ain't productive and eating its actually considered good because its not wasted... However, the antagonist, Mrs Tweedy, enjoys doing it because is her way to punish the chickens for not making her rich. In a realistic perspective, her methods cause the chickens to be less productive by forcing lots of stress in them, making the economy of the farm to decay.
