I'm on the verge of building one of these with my father but have a couple of questions: 1) Do the bungies do a good job? It seems like they'd be more likely to tear the skin if not careful, especially with birds like pheasants and whatnot. 2) Do you just incessantly get your hands and wrists whipped by these bungies? A barrel plucker poses no risk, obviously and a drill plucker maneuvers the fingers around the bird, instead of the bird around the fingers like this particular design. Just wondering if hand whips are a dirty little secret to this design? Ha ha.

@JavaLikeHomesteading

The motor is out of a furnace blower. The "fingers " are rubber bungee cords from Harbor freight cut in half. We spent around 30$ most of the parts we collected over the years.
Here is the description if the link doesn't work they are a tie down strap cut in half PRODUCT OVERVIEW Heavy-duty EPDM tie-down straps safely secure cargo, tarps, luggage, bikes and much more. EPDM rubber stretch cords are strong, pliable and withstand tough weather conditions better than natural rubber. With convenient S-hooks at each end, these EPDM tie downs are easy to use and built to last. Weather-resistant Reinforced ends S-hooks at each end

Let's keep in mind that when using the wizbang plucked yes it can and will do more birds at one time but the down fall to it is one the amount of people you have processing at one time two broken wings and broken leg bones which lets bone marrow into your meat which can change the flavor of your meat and thirdly quite more expensive to build if you're only doing couple birds or up 50 birds with two people the drum type plucker works better in my opinion

Why would it be easier if it spun the opposite way that's not how it was designed
@nickgamble4544
4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Bonham is the brushes spun towards the back of the unit you could just slide the chicken back and forth on the bottom of the barrel flipping it over all the feathers collect in the back and you don’t gotta reach overtop something that’s spinning. You could also then box it in so you don’t get hit with chicken feathers and w.e else. Put a small door on the back to clean it out and cut a hole in the front so when your done you can just hose and bleach it.

Love the idea that you have of the chicken plucker. I just might make one of those for our small Homestead. We have a small Homestead and KZread channel. Would you guys be interested in subscribing to our channel? Thank you for the idea of the chicken plucker. If I make one I will video the build process and send you the link.

@josephbonham1720

Do you have a parts list?
@JavaLikeHomesteading

Pat Roe I don't he was just winging it from stuff we had around. The motor is from a furnace fan. Black rubber bungee cords are the feather pluckers we got those from harbor freight. A piece of all thread from Home Depot and the wheel bearings are also from Home Depot. All said and done we only spent like $20.
@PatRoe

I have seen those and one day we will build one but for right now this is faster than plucking by hand making it more efficient for us. We don't raise that many chickens so that would be to much for us.

Why would it be easier if it spun the opposite way that's not how it was designed
@nickgamble4544
@nickgamble4544

Joseph Bonham verry small design tweak wouldn’t be hard.

We didn’t spend any money that’s stuff we had. Also I proceeded 30 birds. If it hits your hand it doesn’t hurt. If it’s not for you that’s fine.
Muito ruim kkk
No clue what you spent but that was a waste..lol Who wants to HOLD a chicken while its plucked?
@JavaLikeHomesteading
2 жыл бұрын
We spent next to nothing that’s the whole point we had everything from other projects . This worked really well for us. It beats plucking a chicken by hand.I know it’s not perfect but notice there are no blueprints it is because he came up with the design in his head and just built it. That’s just how he was.
