I like that when the chick is about to go back in the nest with the rest it goes back in to the corner

I'm guessing it didn't make it back and it died?

Chick was caught to mother by a hair…these birds use hair in their nesting materials and this happen rather frequently unfortunately. It’s not in these birds instincts to feed a young chick outside of nesting cup or to put the chick back into the nest. If the chick can’t make its own way back it will not survive.

Yeah - if the nest was in the branch of a tree, it would have plummeted to the ground. Instant death preferable to wandering around aimlessly in a box (the actual nest was made by the birds, btw).

These are hollow nesting birds. They will not build a nest on a branch. These type of birds are in declining populations so people put up nesting boxes. This wasn’t a human created problem. The baby bird got dragged from the nest because it was caught to the mother by a hair. These birds use hair in their nesting materials and sometimes it has adverse effects, like this.

Unless it’s a human or an endangered animal, cameraman should not intervene with course of nature.

Conversely, it can be said that humans can intervene as long as there is no impact on the ecosystem. Extinction can't be avoided unless they can escape from the dying earth.

All birds have this special instinct if it's not in my nest it's not " needed ". Even if it was two inches off. However if the bird gets in again by itself everything goes back to normal. Nature is "fickle".

Does the mother have hands to pick up the chick? I don't think so.

These species of birds will not feed young chicks outside of the nest cup. It’s not part of their instincts to feed it or put it back in the nest. If it can’t make it back it will get too cold and die since it doesn’t have enough down or feathers yet to regulate body temperature. If you didn’t notice the chick got dragged out of the nest because it was caught on the mother by a hair. These birds use hair as part of their nesting materials and unfortunately it sometimes causes issues like this. Sometimes the mother bird can actually become stuck to the nest and die or the entire nest ends up being destroyed once the mother bird panics in order to free herself. This is actually a better outcome than some other scenarios due to caught nesting material

I wouldn't say "horrifying" unless the person behind the camera just watched it die and didn't assist.

A number of countries, including the UK where I am from, have legislation that prohibits interfering with birds nests. Perhaps if this nest box had a flip top the owner could swiftly open it, put the chick back in the nest cup, in less than 10 seconds and the parents would be none the wiser. Unfortunately if you have to take the front off by unscrewing it, it takes minutes not seconds, parents will interpret the removal of the front as a compromised nesting site and will abandon the nest, so by attempting to save one chick, you end up killing ALL of them (or having to take the chicks to a bird centre to be hand raised, but those chicks survival odds as adults will be severely diminished - they need to learn life skills from their parents once the chicks have fledged).
