Yes, they do need to change. Anyone that thinks it's ok to leave a house abandoned should lose it. Period. You can't just leave it for a million years then come out of no where and expect it to be there. What if it caught on fire? What if it started to break down and the foundation is falling on the neighbors house? It's all kinds of dangers with just leaving your house so why make your neighbors deal with that? It's very irresponsible and they should lose the property. I used to be on the owners side until I witnessed this in my neighborhood. Mf trying to come from down South so many years later and upset that water damage destroyed the whole house. Well, you wasn't around dummy. There are other things that can happen to your house aside from a squatter. Then this lady just goes back down South And do nothing to help her neighbor. That water went on to his side as well but he was always living in his house so it didn't tear up the foundation but he still had to spend money for some kind of sealing work. She needs to lose this house. It's a danger. Tf.

From viewing the video and reading many of the comments this is what I learned. If this ever happens to you, DO NOT discuss it with anyone, to include the police or city government. Take care of it yourself.

I’ve had a friend that dealt with tenants that stopped paying. Got a witness after 30 days overdue and took of the front and back doors 😂😂😂 the delinquents came home raised hell called the cops and we watched them from the surveillance. Cops say it’s a civil matter they can’t take sides. When the owner/ my friend showed up with evidence that they didn’t pay and were rude on txt about it the cops went against them saying but you owe rent you said you didn’t owe 😂😂😂 then they offered to pay on the spot and my friend said nah leave!!! They ended up moving out stat!! you have to be ballsy and put your foot down. see how shes laughing like its funny

....Of course they have. In fact, EVERY single owner of EVERY single property CAN AND ALWAYS HAS been able to simply file eviction. And in the case of a HOMEOWNER, there is almost literally zero cases like this, since a HOMEOWNER would have to actually INVITE the people to live there first, in direct contrast to the completely unrelated situation of a mere owner of a property.

There should be laws to stop this from happening. Squatters know how to get around the legal system. That girl is playing the victim. She's no victim. Bottom line is if you don't own the property and you're not paying rent you are a squatter. She admitted when you don't pay rent she's a squatter.I have that same problem going on right now.

I could never understand how people don't have a heart, no conscience or anything. It's disgusting to knowingly do something wrong and not make it right. The justice system is rarely in victim's favor and the nerve to talk about what the homeowner should do next time.

Why is it the squatters have more rights than the actual homeowners. This pisses me off and the laws need to change. Also fed up where the squatters claim to be the actual victims. There was one squatter who took the home of someone who died and pulled this same stunt. After he was thrown into jail the squatter sued the family for a lot of money for things like mental anguish and so on and when the homeowners didn’t show up for their court date the squatter WON his lawsuit. When the homeowners went to a local news station they did some digging just to find out that the papers served to the homeowners for their court date was “served” at the courthouse and not to the homeowners and the man who said he served the papers was actually in jail at the time so the homeowners were NEVER notified of the lawsuit. The judge was pissed and reversed his original decision and if I remember correctly it was ruled that the squatter isn’t allowed to file any lawsuits without the courts permission. Absurd!

My mom had to deal with this. Squatters are the fucking worst.

I had a so-called "friend" do this when I was moving out of my home.....the nerve they have is unbelievable.....and she blamed ME saying I never called bank for her, I asked her "well, who have u been paying rent to then?" She had asked about it months before but I didn't want to hurt her feelings with telling her she probably couldn't pass credit check and I told her I may call n ask them ....she wanted to take over payments but I had 15,000 in equity at least! She was scamming me....so literally MONTHS later she just broke a window n moved on in ...took everything I'd been storing there too....I came up from the country to get some stuff n there she was , couldn't make eye contact.....

Just hire Pookie and RayRay to air that house out

Here in Oklahoma we have the "make my day" law which states that if somebody is in your house you absolutely can defend yourself with deadly force. That lady would have been leaving my house one of two ways...within about 3 seconds while running or in a body bag.

I was always taught it's unladylike to stay where you're unwelcome or have been told to go. I was also taught to not accept gifts or touch what is not mine. I can't imagine living somewhere for FREE while the true owners suffer, it's just absolutely disgusting to me! I cannot stand a freeloader!

She admits on video that she hasn't paid "rent" in months, can't find a copy of the "lease", knows that it's someone else's house and that she "just needs time to move." Shouldn't that now be enough to show the police and/or judge to kick her ass out immediately?

It’s that silly grinning that would prompt a swift unorthodox extraction of all unauthorized occupants. I guess it’s mean to ask why her family, friends and or the children’s father aren’t helping?

If she isn't paying rent she can use that money to move. I always say if this ever happened to one of my rental properties I would definitely install security cameras with notifications inside and outside of the home. If I didn't have cameras I would stake out my own home and wait until everyone is gone, break into my own home have a lease/deed on hand. I'd quickly change the locks and have a crew there to move that mess out. If I see any documents I'm shredding them immediately especially if it's a copy of the fake lease they are using. I know this is a lot but it will work faster than what the judge will do. In this lady's case I would say oh I didn't know it was hers I thought it was items that was abandoned when my mother passed away. I'm grieving, goodbye.

1) stake out place with friends/family crew. Wait for squatter to leave. They have to leave sometime to go to the store. 2) break inside. 3) change locks 4) dump items quickly. Get as many people as possible to help. They probably have minimal junk. 5) if squatter comes back with police, you show you own property. Nobody was living in there except friends people known to you. The squatter is crazy/on drugs/delusional and attempting a break in. If they try to take you to court (they won't) it's your word against them. 6) protect property with house sitter cameras so more squatters don't move back in. in.

DO NOT ever involve the city or government in getting your property back. They side with the squatters and will never be on your side as the owner. If you truly need someone out of your home, deal with it yourself and believe me there is plenty you CAN do and it doesn't take long to handle it.

A Woman once told my Buddy who was her landlord that she wasn’t going to pay any more rent and that it would take him up to six months for him to evict her! He got a few of the local gang members to get her out! They came by at 3 in the morning, kicked the door in and told her that if she was still there the next day, there would be a lot of trouble! She left that day and even washed the walls, mopped the floor and left the keys!

You have to be very careful with self evictions like that. You could be the one in jail and if something went wrong then it would be you in prison as well. Better to just serve them the paperwork and always have a good amount of savings for stuff like this. It’s gonna happen and it’s happens more the lower down the ladder you go. That’s why I don’t invest in neighborhoods like that. Not worth the trouble.

@@jerrymylove1754 It doesn't really matter where you invest bc this exact same squatter events have also been happening in the upscale neighborhoods which started mostly in Cali. even in multi-million homes, mansions, and in London. Many stories have been reported over the years. Started happening too much so London passed a jail law of 6 months an immediate arrest with fines attached. The US should probably pass something similar which will immediately assist owners, and will help put an end to copycat squatters.

I wish I was related to the homeowner. Because I would get a REAL LEGIT lease from her, sign it, and stake out the place, wait until the squatter leaves, then back in the driveway with my uhaul or whatever, get in some how, even if I have to break in, because the squatter may have changed the locks, and start moving my things in. Put all of her things beside the street, but id it's illegal to do that, then we will all just be loving together and I PROMISE YOU, that she would be begging to move out after living with me. Because I would make it hell! I wouldn't harm the children tho, I am no monster, but this couldn't be my property. Because we would definitely take care of this ourselves. The system sucks tho, at least here in Florida, if they get mail at an address, they legally live there and you would have to legally evict them. That is B.S. Because anyone could send mail to ANY address! SMDH!

I know many American citizens are struggling with housing or homelessness, but you don't occupy a home that is not yours. Squatting is illegal.

Im pretty sure in Chicago you have to go to civil court to get someone thrown out of your property which means it's a long and expensive process to remove someone it's a huge headache they need to change the laws ,but that happens in a democratic city run by a crappy mayor.

Im going thru the same exact thing my dilema is entering year3 now my parents had a bungalow on chgo's sside they lived in mississippi while collecting rent from a friend of his whom he allowed to rent the home well both of my parents passed away in mississippi and his friend/renter/squatter refuses to move and refuses to pay any rent..the state gave them time due to covid but still i cant get them out or get any rent..it seems like the court systems and lawyers are clueless as to what to do.

You playin too nice…I would study this person habits. From the time they leave for work and come home. I would strike when they leave steal all the Doors 🚪 and change the locks to the screen doors Main doors EVERYTHING🔐 you may need reinforcements but it’s always some crack heads willing to help AND BE SNEAKY for a nice price 💰 . At that point u should have access to the house RECORD EVERYTHING when u evict this person and explain why….u are evicting them If u have to go to the neighborhood and get in contact with old neighbors explain what’s occurring and dig information through these neighbors. Going down there would make it easier for everybody to be on your side…when ur evicting this person. Whatever u do DO NOT FEEL SORRY…they didn’t respect or take u serious after ur parents passing DO NOT PLAY WITH THESE PEOPLE on behalf of your parents DO NOT LEAVE u might have to move in or move somebody in make sure they have a weapon and carry conceal until u move all this person stuff out on the street….what can they do at that point? ITS COLD 🥶 but you’ll have your parents house back

So the squatter is blaming the owner for not watching her own property that was securely locked.. in the Meantime, the courts are dragging this case along which is costing the owner time and money. I think the squatter saw the for sale sign and moved in.

The entitlement is amazing. But even more amazing are the giant legal loopholes that incentivize this behavior.

What I don’t understand is how do they have utilities while squatting in a home that the owner is fighting to reclaim??? There needs to be a special squatters court that can adjudicate these matters on their own docket, outside of regular evictions.

Right before I saw this I was reading about Kim Foxx and 12 indictments..says it all about chicago..

And that's why you don't invest in real estate in Chicago.

Shut off all utilities and let the utility companies know that under no circumstances should they be turned on without you personally going to their offices, providing ID and giving them written authorization. You are under no obligation to provide a livable residence if you are not getting rent.

@@az55544 The tenants would have to bring it to court. Eviction proceedings would probably already be underway for that. The worst that would happen is that the landlord would have to turn on the utilities, which is what they would have to do anyway once they get the deadbeats out.

It's illegal for landlords/ property owners to shut off utilities in Illinois if someone is living in the property. The electric company or gas / water can do that if the bills are unpaid.

They turned that house into a trap house.

They are quick to past bathroom laws that many are uncomfortable with within months but squatter laws never change

This is so shameless, and then she had the nerve to say the owner should have cameras around the house. People just can have nothing now a days without someone wanting it for free!

Ben - a realtor needs keys to show the home. She’s in another state, she did everything right. Have a realtor who also has a background in property management (like me) to help her so this doesn’t happen.

Squatting will only get worse if big corporations keep buying up houses and leave them vacant for profit.

If the owners are paying property taxes, isn't that enough proof they own the property?

Go to your local jail wait for inmate to get out. One is released every day! Once you see the man you’re looking for offer them a $1000 to get the squatters out of your house tell him has 24 hours and the money is his! It worked for me it could work for you!

I read in these comments that owners should deal with them on their own, which is a good idea. But because property taxes are so high in chicago owners could miss the next installment, an eviction notice would be issued, the sherif would remove them in 30 days and the property would go up for auction. And if it didn't go back to the rightful owner they could sue the county for negligence. Owners should be sueing the city and county for that now anyway.

Absolutely disgusting. I am so sorry for those kids learning more bad behavior from their mom.

What about utilities and water isn't it shut off?

Unbelievable, legal homeowners are not protected by any laws but squatters are protected and not prosecuted. They are responsible for the maintenance, taxes and insurance but none of the benefits of being property owners. Laws need to change for property owners, squatters should never allowed to break into private property and face no consequences.

This is why I wont rent my spare rooms out in my lovely home. Squatters who wont pay or might trash the rooms and wont leave.

My parents have a home that is about 250 miles from me, they live with me now, so we have to go often to go check on the property. I finally let my nephew move in and pays a low rent just to make sure no one messes with the property. The house is less than a mile from the border and we see lots of illegally aliens in the area. I recently came t the conclusion we probably need to put cameras up for sure! the Dali Lama said the more your own the more things you have to dedicate your time to.

It's a shame that squatters can take over a home and occupy it, rent-free, for up to 18 months in some states, at the expense of the actual owners of the property. How or why leasing laws are written to protect THEM is a true mystery to all of us. But, this is happening WAY too often around the country. Don't be surprised if some owner or squatter decides to bring a gun to the party.

I had a 17 year squatter,a living nightmare, that know one should haft to tolerate. It was mega loss of money, mental anguished, unbelievable!!

Don't put the burden of proof on the woman whose mom passed away and left her the house to sell If that was in writing that's all I would need with some identification. Put the burden of proof on the people inside the house that she says do not belong there. If the woman from Nashville is lying which 99% of the time would not be the case they would be responsible for some really big damages. But no that's not how it works because the system is broken. Have an empty home - immediately lease it to a trust worthy person. Laws need to change. No show at court should lead to immediate removal. Why have people not changed the law? We live in a time where criminals sometimes have more rights than the law abiding citizens. Turn it around.
