At Holy Trinity H S in Chicago, lunch was an epicurean delight. We didn't have professional chefs or cooks-we had something much better: carloads of Polish Grandmothers volunteering in the kitchen. No stale hamburgers or limp melted cheese sandwiches. Ham, turkey, chicken, pork roasts, chops, roast beef. My favorite was a breaded pork tenderloin, the size of a salad plate, mountain of mash potatoes with gravy, corn or peas and carrots, slice of bread or dinner roll and a pint of milk. All for less than a dollar. No one left hungry. Those were the days.

Jedzenie wygląda smakowicie i chętnie spróbowałbym tych wersji potraw. Czas zrewidować pogląd o Stanach a Wam drodzy rodacy polecam zrewidować pogląd o współczesnej Polsce. I was impressed with the authentic looking southern Polish styles they had, my family is from a small village just south of Krosno, and the authentic shopping babcia ogling the food at 3:45 sealed the deal for me. I was a little skeptical about the pierogi that appeared to have pork in it. I've never had a real pierogi filled with anything other that cheese, potatoes or cabbage growing up. Us polacks love bacon and ham, so it doesn't seem like too big a leap for me. The golabki look legit, too.

Polish food is not only Pierogi Cabbage Schabowy or Kielbasa. Try Leczo(pronaunce Lecho), DEVOLA Cotlet, potato pancaces, Kachubski Herrings, mayonaise salad with portion of smoked ham (popular especially on christmas), poppy seed cake pronaunce Macoviec, Gingerpie (Pie-niki) as for alcohol try NALEVKA it is an 40% alckohol mixed with fruit juice (cherry, cranbery, rasbery, even with nuts....) despite strong portion of alckohol it doestn burn in mounth. What is important there is a space between food in homes/restaurants and food in grocery or cheap markets. Most important are fresh ingrindients. Polish food is high protein high energy food great especially in autumn and winter. Great to work out muscles or work in wood with axe by few hours without tiredness in winter conditions. Awsome to ski or snowboard. In summer much more better are soups like Zurek, Red Barch or Chcken soup and "half" sandwiches with green onion, cottage cheese, ham, eggs.

This is typical Polish milk bar (cheap homemade food). Polish cuisine has more to offer. Before war, Polish cuisine was very rich and complex. Did you know that crayfish soup is a Polish dish? Or that Jerusalem artichoke was popular vegetable? Polish people used to cook turtle (sic!). Due to occupation and war, many exclusive food supplies became scarce. When communism entered Polish cuisine changed from elegant and sophisticated into labor-high calorie diet. And so until now.

Haha, most meals are called exactly the same as we ukrainians call it, literally letter to letter :D These are very popular all over Ukraine, Belarus and Russia as well. Pirogy may be translated as Pies, but in fact it is the same as our Ukrainian and Russian vareniki, that might be translated as boiled stuff :D Kapusta is actually Cabbage in English. It is just stewed.

Rob T because leczo or lecso is of Hungarian origin. There are many schools, but I prefer to use only red paprikas not yellow nor green ones like in the vid. Hungarian cousine is the best in the world. Greetings from Poland.

+Rob T Pole and Hungarian cousins be good for fight and good for party.
Slav food best food!🇷🇸🇵🇱

Dude I am so envying you... All looked delicious..... out of world...
Jedzenie wygląda smakowicie i chętnie spróbowałbym tych wersji potraw.

polish food looks legit good
Domeną tego jedzenia jest to że robi się je na miejscu. Poza tym i tak najlepsze są u Nas w Polsce , bo nie ważne kto robi to jedzienie, ale z jakich produktów powstają.
I miss this place.
This is fine ass witcher food, love it
I remember coming here when I was 5 years old with my mom, the ladies working would give me a warm bun to eat while my mom shopped. Miss this place
Unfortunately it's been closed for many years now, miss them
Jesus Christ man, this so some good stuff right there.

Tu w chicago jest wiecej polskiego jedzenia niz ameryknskiego 😂
I was impressed with the authentic looking southern Polish styles they had, my family is from a small village just south of Krosno, and the authentic shopping babcia ogling the food at 3:45 sealed the deal for me. I was a little skeptical about the pierogi that appeared to have pork in it. I've never had a real pierogi filled with anything other that cheese, potatoes or cabbage growing up. Us polacks love bacon and ham, so it doesn't seem like too big a leap for me. The golabki look legit, too.
I am Russian. I love to try it. Next time in Chicago
In summer much more better are soups like Zurek, Red Barch or Chcken soup and "half" sandwiches with green onion, cottage cheese, ham, eggs.

goralska is our house kielbasa, followed by ciemna and then lesna.....there are so many varities of sausage and each store makes it their way..you can spend a life trying sausage and you will have different each time.
Chicago is just awesome in so many ways thats why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why oh why did this place shut down?

Gilmart is permanently closed as is Warsaw Inn in Lynnwood. Where do you go for a great Polish dinner anymore? Seriously, I'm asking! 😮
It looks great ! You are awesome to make you own sausages/ham and smoke ! If it doesn't exist anymore it's a pity! Maybe people just want the pizza... :( BTW if an Italian started this - it's a proof that the Polish food is not a local thing
I need to retire nearby that place 🤤
Sadly this place is now gone as well as Frank and Joe's at Archer and Harlem.
This makes me hungry for some of my mom's Halušky.

Im from Poland, and in my opinion its best polish food in Chicago.
Thanks for sharing other culture's food So tired of tacos & pizza
This is typical Polish milk bar (cheap homemade food). Polish cuisine has more to offer. Before war, Polish cuisine was very rich and complex. Did you know that crayfish soup is a Polish dish? Or that Jerusalem artichoke was popular vegetable? Polish people used to cook turtle (sic!). Due to occupation and war, many exclusive food supplies became scarce. When communism entered Polish cuisine changed from elegant and sophisticated into labor-high calorie diet. And so until now.
3:45 They just pulled :^D
Haha, most meals are called exactly the same as we ukrainians call it, literally letter to letter :D These are very popular all over Ukraine, Belarus and Russia as well. Pirogy may be translated as Pies, but in fact it is the same as our Ukrainian and Russian vareniki, that might be translated as boiled stuff :D Kapusta is actually Cabbage in English. It is just stewed.
