These Greek Americans seem to have completely forgotten where their ancestors came from and confuse Greek Gryos with Turkish Döner Kebab. It's the latter that they serve as Gyros.

This is across from Dukes Drive In that’s no longer there. I was sad they closed and demolished but after seeing this, I want to try Billy-Jos!

I haven't ate a Gyro in years. It's Greek right? Well I know Imperials takeaway sell them in the Bahamas. there is one located directly opposite the British Colonial Downtown Nassau Bay Street. Yummy lol

What they show here and what's obviously common in the USA has absolutely nothing to do with Greek Gryos. It's similar to cheap Döner Kebab meat but it has nothing to do with real Gyros.

@@aperturix however it was invented from Greek settlers in the Chicago and NYC area and at least it has Greek flavors with the spices. It may not be pork but it's delicious.

@@accobra4272 My guess is that it's not pork because there are so many people in the USA that don't eat pork, not least for religious reasons.

THIS IS NOT GYROS. This mushy concoction is a primitive version of Döner Kebab as we know it in Berlin (there is also much better Döner Kebab available but unfortunately this type is very common). Real Gyros is made from slices of pork that are layered on a spit. No sausage meat or anything.

No its not. Nothing to do with Turkish doner kebab. This is Greek American gyros with Greek spices n flavors.

@@accobra4272 This is strictly American and only shares the name with Greek Gyros. And maybe some of the spices. As I've already said it looks much more like the cheap versions of Döner Kebab than Gyros. But if you like it I don't mind. The Greek migrants have probably found out that this version sells better and can be made cheaper than the original thing. I know how Greek Gyros looks and tastes from first-hand experience.

@@aperturix I said the same thing lol. However it's not a cheap version of a doner bc it's not doner. Doner it's made of a thinly sliced meat. Greek American gyros it's made from gr beef n gr lamb. And lamb in USA it's not cheap. I've had an authentic doner in Istanbul (not like the one in Berlin) I've had hundreds in Greece (I'm Greek) and hundreds of gyros in USA n Canada.
