And the pepper spray ended up protecting her from a patient who said he was sick but there were no physical conditions found, and she went in and tried to ask questions but he kept on accusing her of saying he’s crazy and cornered her. She obviously used the pepper spray as a self defence mechanism. I’ve also heard rumours that she’s been abused during her childhood and nobody did a thing, that also may have been one of the triggers to 1. Trying to get a gun or pepper spray 2. Spraying the “patient” with pepper spray, as she doesn’t want to be attacked any more.

i don't know if they ever mentioned she was abused (her dad was a psychopath and serial killer, but it wasn't mentioned if he harmed her - if anything it was more emotional abuse as she realised he would never love her and only wanted to know her for personal gain, i.e for her to take care of him and get him a heart transplant). i don't blame her for getting pepper spray but i think it was a safety hazard and she almost got in trouble for in.

luna love I think it was more than just him leaving because he was very manipulative so he probably was like that when she was a child which was the emotional trauma she probably had some PTSD but I don’t really know

In a few episodes, it's revealed that her father is a killer because he's a sociopath. Her father tried playing with her head saying she was like him. And Reese thinks Dr. Charles was gonna let her father die of his heart problem after Dr. Charles found out the truth. That's why Sarah Reese left the show.

I disagree, in other episodes, when the patient was being harassed, reese went after the predator and dr.charles insisted not to. They have two different mindsets. I think that reese will end up doing something stupid that Charles insisted of her not doing. Charles is more somewhat responsible and is able to forget about thing and keep it at a low. But reese is very little the opposite.
