In this video, I chat to legendary songwriter, record producer, DJ and singer Robert Owens who became one of the figures most associated with the late 80s golden era of Chicago house.
He is best known for his work with the Chicago house group Fingers Inc which consisted of Robert, Larry Heard and Ron Wilson. They released their album “Another Side” in 1988 which featured the song “Can you feel it” which was one of the first deep house records and considered one of the best house songs of all time.
As an innovative and in-demand DJ, he has dazzled crowds across the UK, wider Europe, Japan and America. As a solo artist composing lyrics and singing on a series of tracks, Robert has similarly developed a strong following. ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’, ‘Visions’, ‘Gotta Work’ and ‘Rhythms In Me’, which Robert produced with David Morales, were just a few successful tracks Robert released in the early 1990s.
By 1996, he had returned to dance music with "Ordinary People": a two-part EP recording for Musical Directions.
Since then, he has collaborated with London Elektricity, Coldcut and Brookes Brothers to name a few.
Now based in Berlin, still releasing music and very much part of the scene, this is a must-see for any house music lovers!
