    I remember seeing this game LIVE. Being from NC, having lived in Chapel Hill and a HUGE UNC fan, I have always loved Michael Jordan. He was AWESOME in this game but it should have never gone into OT. As a former player and referee, I saw Jordan get more "gift" fouls than any other player in his era. A few calls in this game were definite gifts. None more than the last foul in regulation against McHale. But he put it in OT and went on to score 63. Was a great game!

But it really took blatant effect starting in 88... Fixed games geared around beefing up home team records to bring in fans. And giving all the big market teams with 'marquis' players preferential treatment...

    James Brown Ill put it to you this way. Jordan could literally slap the hand of the guy he was guarding (you could hear I) and nothing got called. Then he comes down on offense and someone even as much as breathes on him and the foul is called. This garbage was going on since '88-89 and got worse as they started winning all those titles. You couldn't even tell the difference between reffed home games or road games for this team anymore. They got such bullshit calls that gave them ridiculous amounts of extra foul shots and other advantages it was just beyond believable. All because the Bulls were big market and Jordan was the nba's biggest name... The fans in certain places like the Cavs' at Richfield Coliseum, forinstance knew the score here and they booed his (and pippen's) asses out of that building everytime. They knew all the calls were going against their team even at home and costing them every game. Think to yourself how many of those games where Jordan buried somebody with a last second shot. Think to yourself how many times that would NEVER have happened if not for the countless overly biased calls (in Chicago's favor) that kept the game close all that time and set it up for the finish... If any of those games were called fairly (down the middle) the Bulls probably lose by double digits... No big shots, no championships. The nba was heavily fixed since 1988...

    Everyone talks about the 63 points he scored in Game 2. Most people forget he scored 49 in Game 1. That's a 56-point average against what was arguably the greatest team of all time... There are no words. Also, I guess you were only allowed two free throws back then, regardless of where you were shooting the ball. Jordan should've been given three free throws when McHale fouled him at 15:58. If that had happened, Bulls would've won the game.

    Yeah, only McHale didn't foul him. But back to the 56 point average, it means very little. It should be easy to understand, even for a Michael Jordan fan, the more one shoots, the more they are going to score. You think Larry Bird couldn't have scored 63 points? He absolutely could've and had he shot THAT many times, probably would've scored 75. But he cared more about getting his teammates involved.

Lol it was one of those I'm so happy we did moments too since he went off for 63 points. I was just disappointed they didn't win the game. This was the greatest era of basketball, I sure am happy I got to grow up watching it. From Dr J all the way up until Shaq retired was a blast. Today's league is still fun but it's missing some heart and soul.

  • @LukeElectric

    @LukeElectric

    2 жыл бұрын

    To say that today's NBA is missing some soul, is an understatement. The league is completely player oriented, instead of team oriented. It's kind of a shame that star players switch teams so often. Instead of having a favorite team that you can be a die-hard fan of, for life, we are mostly relegated to simply rooting for our favorite players, regardless of what team they play on. (At least, that's what it has become, for me) Unfortunately, the NFL is moving that direction as well.

Maybe I led you to believe it was easy, When it wasn’t. Maybe I made you think my highlights started at the free throw line, And not in the gym. Maybe I made you think that every shot I took was a game winner. That my game was built on flash, and not fire. Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength, That my pain was my motivation. @@thedude2264 Thanks, man. I had never read that before. There's a lot of truth there, and I've always been aware of his work ethic. But the fact that Jordan possesses more natural skills and athletic abilities than Bird is what makes the flash so obvious and expectant, and his work ethic less visible to the average Joe. Having natural skills and abilities myself, I understand. His statement proves my point. Bird surprises people with his skills. Jordan wows people, but their mind tells them, "Well, of course, he can do that; look at how athletic he is!" It really is too bad everyone argues who is "the greatest" instead of praising God for the skills and abilities He makes possible by His great creative power and wisdom if we work at something hard enough and long enough! Jordan is right, basketball is not a gift from God, his natural abilities are. He simply was attracted to basketball and invested work in that area. He could have been a great anything else if he had applied himself as much to it as he did basketball. However, basketball seems to be the perfect sport for Jordan's set of skills and abilities to flourish more naturally than other sports.

Wades quickness at the beginning of his career as seen in the video above, Lebrons power and passing ability evident in the 90-91 season, and Kobe's jumper and dedication. Jordan appears to have divided his abilities and gave it to each of those players.

    Both Michael Jordan and Larry Bird were CLUTCH. They didn't put on poor performances in the finals like LeBron has or forget to show up in the 4th quarter. Even when their teams didn't make it all the way in the post season, those two performed like the legends they were. LeBron is finally coming around and learning how to shake the gitters off but it took him 10 years to achieve something that MJ and Bird were born with. He'll still never be as clutch as they were.

    Bird said that MJ played like god, and Jordan was only at the beginning of his greatness. In the coming years, Jordan improved almost every aspect of his game. Bird was and still one of the greatest ever and I also comment that he is one of the smartest players ever. If he said Jordan is so great, he knew what he was talking about.

    @Drew Biggah The Celtics had 5 HOF players because Bird actually passed the fucking ball to them once in a while and made his teammates MUCH better players, like Magic did. For Jordan the ball hog, it was more important to score more points than any other player. And yes, it WAS a legit 1 v 5 because your hero wanted it that way. The better player and better team won and the next year when Boston was the walking wounded, they STILL swept the Bulls out of the playoffs.

Bird, and then Isaiah Thomas (myself being only 7, I absolutely loved that the smallest guy out there was such a beast) I didn't actually see Jordan play, until a couple years later... Jordans team's were built from the ground up with jordan being the foundation, unlike James who left to play with already legit All stars an a finals Mvp an who both were considered some of the best at their respective positions. Jordans 1st ring was with Pippen an grant being his sidekicks.
