I moved here 10 years ago from the South and while staying with a friend on the Northside while apartment hunting, I discovered the Southside which reminded me of the South in some areas. I've got a one bedroom with free assigned parking space, central air , wah/dry in building and there is no comma in my rent and I'm not in the hood. Found it on Craiglsit while they (independent landlord) were remodeling the building. Best decision I ever made.

Highly recommend looking at Pilsen, Humboldt, Bronzeville, Kenwood, Uptown for newcomers. I'm a native Chicagoan, and I would recommend places like Portage Park area, Old Irving Park, Dunning Area, Edison Park to name a few........in other words the Northwest side. Much more affordable. Why didn't you mention those significant areas. I'm wondering how long you've lived here

So funny! I've been living in New York City since 1997, originally from South Florida. And for some reason Chicago has always been in my mind and heart. Now that my girlfriend and I have the ability to work remote we spoke about relocating in South Florida but for some reason I'm just not feeling that vibe as I'm all too familiar with it from my past. But Chicago as odd as it may sound feels like a place I can work remote especially having that City vibe. Also it's much much cleaner than the streets of NYC. My friends thought I was nuts when I told him I may want to work live and play in Chicago as opposed to South Florida, but I know the energy is nowhere near NYC, but Chicago seems like a nice little place plus we can move around especially in the winter time to South Florida or nevada, California to get away from the brutal winter. But we do plan on going to Chicago this summer just to walk around because my girlfriend hasn't been there but she seems very excited to feel the Chicago vibe. Also one thing that really really turns me off about living in Chicago is the real estate taxes as we would plan to purchase a condo if we move. But the taxes are outrageous! That would probably be the only con about living in Chicago. But I guess they are other pros that make up for this flaw .. I definitely know when looking on Zillow the apartments for sale in Chicago would be two, three times that amount in Manhattan so I have to take the good in the bad 😎👊. Anyways nice video thank you again. 👍

I’m gonna go ahead and say it- at least post pandemic there’s really nothing to do downtown. I moved to Chicago as a grad student (still finishing my MFA) in 2020, I originally moved to the south loop, then lived in the Pittsfield- a cheap building for students, young professionals, and other lower income people next millennium Park- before moving to streeterville (the worst area in the city in my book) for the better part of 2021, then finally moving to Lincoln Park, where I reside now. While living in the loop, I found multiple expensive restaurants, the infamous shops, closing early, and overall lights very little barring the park- more so grant, aside from skating at the ribbon, and I don’t like millennium- with streeterville, being the most egregious example of where I lived. The near North in general is very, very vapid and touristy, but Streeterville is where you live in the area if you’re an old person who wants to be a little bit away from the bars, so I quite literally as a 24-year-old had nothing to do in my neighborhood. I wouldn’t include Chinatown as part of downtown- most people here in the city, considered to be the near south side- and have other issues with this videos Examples, of what constitutes which region. Personally, if you want ‘adventure’ as this video puts it, you’re better off on the near west side, near southside or south loop, and the far north, for Chicago I would put it this way, downtown is simply a business district- at least, following the lightfoot administration- where are you go home after work.

As someone who has family in NYC. It has visited the family multiple times and live downtown in Chicago, don’t ever move downtown. It might look in a superficial way like New York, but couldn’t be culturally further, zero bodegas/corner stores, everything closes at 5 PM, very few cheap restaurants and fewer bars with almost no extended socials 3rd spaces. In terms of recommendations, I would consider the northside- north of Lincoln Park, there’s actually nothing to do here, unlike what this video says, everything in “Lincoln Park” is in Lakeview, they just happen to be walking distance from each other- if not the West side- Wicker Park, Logan Square, Greektown, University Village, Fulton Market, and Pilsen are full of things to do, and will be more amenable to a metropolitan lifestyle, akin to NYC, as opposed to the geriatric lifestyle you get downtown.

👀 I feel like a big point to make is that downtown Chicago is *not* like New York City, Eg. It is *not* alive all night. Downtown Chicago is a working city. So most people work downtown during the day and leave to the suburbs/surrounding areas at night. So, in my opinion, downtown gets verrry quiet. I lived in the South Loop and bruh. You really need to be confident to live Downtown because I just felt it got super quiet, but still had some “characters” who hang out around the city at night. Sorry, but I didn’t see this in the video and thought it was important.

It's actually pretty sad that people like you waste your time going onto videos for cities you hate just so you can write negative comments about them. It gains you absolutely nothing other than a few seconds of pointless attention lol. I just pity you more than anything else honestly because there are so many better things you could be doing with your time.
